I’m getting complaints from my users about the new Roku UI as well. As Plex seems unwilling to listen to user opinion, I’m powerless to do anything about it other than look at ditching Plex and replacing it with an alternative.
Hmm… something wrong with Plex on my system. Play starts playing almost instantly on devices on the local network, and sometimes takes 3 or 4 seconds on a remote connection.
I might appreciate a system that would give me time to start a video and go select a beverage before the show starts.
Pressed play, walked up to the liquor store and bought a 6 pack. Walked back, drank it.
Don’t remember if movie played or not.
Joking!
Kidding aside, I don’t see these long load times others are talking about. Emby is faster (almost instantaneous) but Plex starts playing in 2 or 3 seconds for me in my home lan.
Maybe some of this is time differential is Plex “phoning home”???
Off topic but here, in Tennessee, it is against the law for liquor stores to sell beer. You would have to go to a convenience store or a grocery store or a beer store to get your beer. When I first moved to Tennessee I could not understand the reasoning for that law but, after many years I have found that the reasoning is sound under that rather lax standards of intelligence for Tennessee politicians
Of course you “might” have not meant a six pack of beer.
Maybe Plex is recruiting “idea” people from the rejects from the Tennessee legislature.
Yea, it’s weird the different laws. In NJ all wine, bear, spirits are sold at Liquor stores. Can’t buy bear or wine at the convenient or grocery store.
I’ve got a liquor store a block away, 2 bars within 3 blocks and a huge liquor outlet 5 blocks away.
Gotta go about 1.5 miles for a convenient store, go figure!
A good portion of this thread falls in that category.
Continuing the beer discussion, here in Saskatchewan Canada, I can’t buy beer in a grocery store or convenience store, I have to go to a bar or liquor store. I can’t purchase cannabis at any of those locations, I have to walk to the local authorized pot shop.
Back on point. 3-5 seconds from play to viewing the content. The browsing is insanely the slowest part. Navigating from one show/movie to the next. Where are all the dang pot shops!? I could use the mental delay to keep in sync with plex.
I have it on good authority that Tennessee is on the very cusp of legalizing pot. The legislation should get through to the Governor’s signature by no later than 2100 or so.
The reason that I moved to Tennessee is that Tennessee gave Texas Davy Crockett so it seemed only fair that Texas should give Tennessee, me.
I’d assume what’s next would be: Pressed play in Plex; walked away and forgot about it; watched Fellowship of the Ring: Extended Edition from start to finish in a different room on Emby–pee and snack breaks included; came back, and Plex had only buffered 65%.
I’m joking, but in all seriousness, I really do find the slow responsiveness of playback really does detract from the enjoyment somewhat, especially when experiencing the speediness of the competition.
It’s always a war between liquor and beer. We just had a big kafuffle about big supermarkets selling liquor would put all the small liquor/spirits store out of business.
That’s so weird. Here in Quebec beer is everywhere - grocery store, convenience store, Costco, Walmart… Wine is also everywhere, but the good bottles are reserved for the government ran agency. Pot is only sold in another government ran agency, but you can mail order it from anywhere in Canada… Such a mess
Making a list… being a beer drinker, and in case I ever decide to travel
New Jersey, Saskatchewan - liquor stores only.
Quebec, Tennessee - almost anyplace.
