The iOS app is getting better, but the weird new interface is weird. @sergiou87 has been doing a lot of work on the video player that’s made it a lot better. Just missing HDR support and lossless audio tracks to PCM instead of transcoding to a lower quality.
A least the tvOS app layout is good. Please don’t mess that up.
You might or might not be, but you’ve been saying for 4+ years that users will be listened to and communication improved, and we only get real communication in times of crisis like this one and the privacy policy changes. You haven’t shown me trustworthiness yet.
Anyway, good on you if you fix this quickly, but at the moment you are losing customers left and right and you could have avoided all of this if you had listened 2 years ago when the UI first came out in PMP. It takes 2 more years to get a proper UI, people will be gone for good.
Yeah honestly.
Still tvOS is the best layout I have ever seen on any media player ever.
thank you elan.
Hope you and the team are having a good holiday season despite all the angst.
That is pretty much the plan, yes.
YES! Finally a bit of news I was hoping for all along! PLEASE follow through on Android and all the other devices. It might not make me come back to Plex permanently as Emby pretty much offers everything I need, but it sure would make me feel slightly less frustrated the few times I still DO hop between the two. Plus that warm and fuzzy feeling that Plex does listen to its user base after all, even if it takes 2000+ posts (not counting anything before Roku) ![]()
PLEASE follow through on Android
At this Point I am just curious.
I can easily see that the Roku - general UI-look is worse than the one we had (Which wasn’t perfect either)
But the Android app? It’s more than neat. Top bar an orderly search field, which goes through all the libraries fast enough. We can hide those categories we don’t need. The bottom bar and top bar use only little space, and our content is focused.
So can anyone tell me, regarding design, looks or usability what is wrong with the android version (or how it could be improved)?

As I said before, we didn’t disable them in the retro version
Well someone is doing something.
The HGTV and USTVNow plugins now work versus the never ending spinner I was getting earlier.
CBS, PBS and just about every other TV channel plugin will display the graphics for all their shows. But when you try and play something you get a pop up “There are no video selections to list right now”.
Something is either disabled or was not configured properly.
I just hope the Libraries are put back in an obvious spot that very obvious and easy to use without the need for extra button presses. Do that and much of the navigation problems for kids and older people should hopefully go away.
Well someone is doing something.
That someone is certainly not us.
The most likely explanation is something on the sites in question or their content distribution networks changed (lack of reliability is just one of the issues with plugins due to their third party nature).
May I suggest to analyse all the feedback of the last two years about online stuff and rethink if every decision in this direction was the right one.
Fully and totally agree on that!!!
Why not ROLL BACK to the state from 2 years ago and start from scratch?!?! (And quite frankly: I’d start with a major change in Plex’s leadership team.)
But first you shot yourself in the foot in the state of PMP. Took your car and went to the county of Xbox and shot yourself again.
Hopped on a train to PS4 city and shot yourself once again.
Looked out the window, saw Android pass by and figured “Yo, let’s shoot myself again”.
Your friend iOS offered to help, but when you got to his place your gun unloaded in your thigh.
He brought you to Roku hospital, but you didnt like that doctor so proceeded to shoot yourself in the arm.
Why should we believe you when you say you’ll never use your gun again at this point?
I really wish you fix this mess, but there’s been a huge disconnect between what we’ve wanted and what we’ve got in the past 3-4 years since I joined, so it’s hard to trust you. Very hard.
Not to mention that you shot yourself into the other arm when you changed your privacy policy. And then the episode where you litterally sawed off your arm over a period of more than a year with Plex Cloud. At the same time you had bleeding wounds with Cloud Sync, DVR and Transcoding that you never took care of. All while constantly stabbing yourself at non-vital places with News, Tidal, VR and other non-core functionality.
And during all this self-mutilation you constantly told us that you are listening, that you are caring and that in future everything will be different.
Yeah, sure.
So can anyone tell me, regarding design, looks or usability what is wrong with the android version (or how it could be improved)?
I don’t want Categories—I want Libraries. I don’t want Let’s Plays combined with TV Shows; I don’t want Audiobooks combined with Music. I want a list of Libraries of various types that is separated by server, not a list of Libraries from various servers that is separated by type. Combining by server and separating by type undoes the careful curation admins like myself and my dad have created for our users (and ourselves).
And I don’t want Search to default to (and force) showing results for multiple servers from a single query.
Sounds like you want Plex circa 2016.
[quote=“Dreadeus, post:92, topic:351577”].
And I don’t want Search to showing results for multiple servers from a single query.
That’s the one thing I’ll admit I wanted and asked for, but there should be a way to see what server it’s on and get the option to pick a server (or set a default) before playback.
Navigation though was perfectly fine before.
Yeah I guess this can depend a lot on individuals set ups.
Generally though I agree that if I search for 3:10 to Yuma, be it my 1080p remux or my 4K remux and if both those files exist on both my servers, I would prefer to see all four show up (all fully identified by version type and server location.)
I don’t want Categories—I want Libraries.
The UI we have, could in theory also be adjusted to allow libraries - I assume.
Yeah I guess this can depend a lot on individuals set ups.
and get the option to pick a server
Features create “noise”. A fully customizable App is way to complicated for 90+% of the users.
The trick is to keep it clean and orderly and still offer the important features.
Plex is already full of features. Some like showing lyrics and you can tap on them to jump there are amazing, some like the new visualizer…really?
Compare it to google music etc, Plex looks more loaded (supports more media, I know…)
So before they implement fully adjustable Client Software, they would need to give even more Control to the admin to also deactivate more Features. So he can make sure his kids and others can still actually use Plex.
As Example, I’d love to deactivate and hide some stuff already at this point (I love clean designs, visualizer would be gone asap). But that is just a preference I have.
Personally I do have found something I do think is just bad design.
An Issue I still have with the non Beta version, is that even synced content gets streamed from the Server. While in my case I have a flatrate, it s still suboptimal. Also the button for offline Browsing, is it really necessary? Can t you do a check whetever server is available and just display what can be reached? ATM I have to check the button so I can reach offline content, if Server is down.
I mentioned it here, because it’s partly bug and partly bad design.
The Button is more noise. At the same time it’s additional work, also confuses because People expect it to happen automatically.
There is alot about shooting one’s limbs in the upper posts. I am all for giving feedback. But if it ends in trashing everything, also the good parts, no one will know what to fix first.
Confusion and pressure ends in a worse product for use, of that I am sure.
We made it very clear what we think of the Roku Design. Let them fix that, if there is further things to adjust on Android let’s get to that later. But anyone who has both can assure you.
That while Plex Android is not perfect she is a nice looking Lady in her best age with a good heart.
Roku however is our Cousin who shouldn’t be in a room with us alone, because she was born and raised in Alabama. We worry what People think of us, if they saw us together.
(From Europe, but I think Alabama is the right state for the joke)
Just cause you like Androids UI more than rokus doesn’t make it more of a priority. Android users have suffered and complained for months already. Xbox many more months . PMP users have suffered this mess for YEARS.
And we never asked for most of the features, it’s Plex’s leadership taking decisions not based on users needs. So yes, they should go back and give us what we want, even if it means a scrapping a few useless features.
g all this self-mutilation you constantly told us that you are listening, that you are caring and that in future everything will be different.
This is most likely the exact reason plex has started removing plugins. Unreliable and it has nothing to do with Plex at all but the content sites change something or have bad internet connection. The complaining from users such as yourself when a plugin breaks (and plex did nothing to it) and then go to blame it on Plex is really sad.
Android users have suffered and complained for months already.
Exactly. I don’t feel like repeating all my grievances yet again. Either Plex has finally gotten the message, or they haven’t. Right now we have Elan’s voice in this thread saying that they heard the customers loud and clear at last, so I’m not going to rehash it again. For now I’ll just wait what changes they come up with and then make noise (hopefully happy noise).
