In the announcement blog post and on the Live TV page - both say iOS and AndroidTV are the only supported platforms right now. Even the web client doesn’t have this yet.
It the Amazon Fire Stick a type of AndroidTV?
No, Amazon Fire Stick uses FireOS.
I was under the impression they both ran Android but Amazon may have modified it in specific ways. Either way one would think that the Plex app for FireTV is different from the version you would get for AndroidTV.
However, if that is the case one could try and sideload the AndroidTV Plex app onto the FireTV to see if that would work.
If it does work one would think that it wouldn’t be a supported configuration.
FireOS is heavily modified AOSP (Android Open Source Project) so there is similarities, but vast differences as well, especially around how TV apps works and how notifications do.
FireOS does not support the Leanback library, which is a principle component of Android TV.
It’s actually the same APK for Android Mobile, Android Tablet, Android TV and Fire OS, with different sections enabled when you’re on specific devices.
Fire OS devices will not activate any ‘Android TV’ components of the app.
