Hey there,
I was thinking of dropping my set top boxes in favor for an HD home run prime. We have fireTV/sticks around the house. Does the live TV option work with them?
Thanks

I didnt think so but i wasnt sure if Android TV would sorta count as fire TV since they both use android. A shame
Nope Amazon Fire TV devices run Fire OS. Android TV refers to Nvidia Shield or other similar Amazon TV devices. Does not refer to Android Mobile devices.
FireTV runs the HDHomeRun App, and you can stream live TV from that. Works well for me.
I’ve tried the free SiliconDust HDHomeRun View app on FireTV too and it works fairly well. There was some interlace artifacts on some channels but beyond that it was a fairly good and intuitive experience for Live TV viewing.
This can be combined with Plex DVR for scheduled recordings until such time as Plex sees fit to support Live TV and Time Shifting on other platforms.
Apparently Plex now supports Live TV via the Amazon FireTV along with an updated interface more akin to Plex on the Apple TV.
How I found out was somewhat odd. I think what happened was that while I was watching a movie via the movie section in Plex, the Plex app on FireTV updated itself. After the update or In order to complete the update the movie stopped and the app closed. After restarting the Plex app on FireTV, Live TV and the new interface were immediately apparent.
I have Plex 1.7.6 installed on my Synology DS1815+ NAS because 1.8.1 would seemingly lockup whenever a Plex DVR scheduled recordering was triggered. So rolling back to a known functional version was advisable. Plex Media Server version 1.8.3 is currently running on my Windows Server 2012 Essentials box, however, Live TV is an option for both the Synology and the Server 2012 Essentials box.
