Amazon TV Cube (3rd Gen) Plex HDR/DV bug fixed?

Player Version#: 9.13.1.37459

Hi, I was wondering if the Amazon Fire TV Cube (3rd Gen) Plex HDR10+/DV bug fixed? The one that’s in the Fire TV Stick 4K Max where if there was a stream that had HDR10+/DV in the same one it wouldn’t play right and just have a black screen. I asked on reddit and one of the Plex Employees was unaware of this bug. I confirmed it here. I did (well I think anyway) I got the logs for it, so here they are too. Let me know if you have any trouble accessing it.

I’m so glad it sounds like there might be a DTS (hopefully DTS:X too) update along with TrueHD coming down the road soon to it.

Can confirm this.
@ChuckPa is already into this. Keeping fingers crossed about a soon progress.

For a fix on the Fire TV Stick 4K Max? That’d be great. I assume it’s working the same way on the Fire TV Cube (Gen 3) version?

Hopefully this fix is coming for both. With full DTS (DTS:X included) and TrueHD support on the Cube also.

Some more info also here Fire TV Cube gains Improved Upscaling as well as DTS, DTS-HD, and Dolby True HD audio passthrough in latest software update | AFTVnews

TrueHD passthrough already works with Plex on the Fire TV Cube (3rd), only DTS-HD is still transcoded into multichannel PCM. Hopefully they get that fixed soon.

PS. When using KODI instead of Plex, DTS-HD passthrough actually works, so it’s definitely a Plex thingy.

Update:

Engineering is aware and already working on this

There will be an app update.

That’s great to hear! I’ve always had this issue on the Fire TV Stick 4K Max since I’ve gotten it, so it’ll be so nice to finally have it fixed. Fingers crossed sooner then later. Also, once the TV Cube does get DTS (and hopefully DTS:X support), that too!

Just curious, have you seen these complaints from Linus (marked it for you)? I’m not sure if he’s still using the old Sync method and didn’t switch to the new Downloads one. I used to have those issues before fully switching. But for some reason 1 specific show still won’t download on my Tablet and can’t figure out why. I just gave up there.

I’ve seen the complaints and considered the source. Enough said there.

I have also forwarded to the Engineering team as requested

I don’t use the old sync. It was replaced because it was a PITA.
The new method works so much better and faster for me.

Does this only affect the Fire TV Cube G3 or does it also affect the Fire TV Stick 4K Max?
Thanks!

Don’t know what is impacted. I don’t have all those players in my home office.

@yanksno1 See discussion from Files with both HDR10+ & DoVi Profile 8.1 metadata show blank/black screen
Apparently only the 4K Max still has the issue with latest FireOS/firmware.

4k max not fixed

I’m still having this issue on Fire TV 4K Max and it’s getting worse daily as more releases contain DV profile 8.1 (DV+HDR10+)

This has been fixed in the latest beta release, you can download the APK to sideload onto an Amazon device. It should be released to Amazon devices next week.

Does this include the 4K stick? I’ve got a screen split in thirds when playing 4K HDR.

Yeah I’m wondering if the Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max stick will get this update as well. Any idea when it’ll get pushed through if it will?

Amazon has v9.28.0.3162 (in the US, anyway) (link).

You can force an update via the web. Tell it to deliver it to your device.

An uninstall / re-install will load the current version as well (but you’ll have to login again, set options, etc).

I tried that this morning, deleted the old app and then pushed it from that link to my Fire Stick Max stick. Still same issue with the black screen. Am I doing something wrong here?
