Read through a couple articles and forum postings regarding this before posting. Most of the answers seem to be wait or just unclear. Granted a lot of those posts are about 2 years old. There a status on if this is possible?

Should note, I am able to encode / use the resources for other applications. (using handbrake to encode / save space). So I know the card works, just plex for whatever reason never lists that it is using it. In the console / logs for plex I do see the transcode requests but they are all being piped to the software one. The dashboard also never notes the (hw).
Plex doesn’t track which Nvidia GPUs will or will not work.
Search through the forum and you’ll find that the P2000 is common and cards above the GT1060 are known to work. That’s about it. Searching here really is your best source of info.
There is a long standing request for Engineering to add AMD GPU support.
eh… just popped in a p2000 yesterday and fixed all my problems. I am transcoding with plex and encoding files from handbrakecli nearly all the time. So my cpu is probably dying slowly. Thank god for gcroups in linux.
Real note, AMD is not going away and I am seeing requests that go back like years. Option wise as a user, I pay 500 bucks for a video card from nvidia and then have to pay for a license on top of that. Super scummy practice. Alternatively break the card firmware illegally to go around the cuda core limitation. That is not a problem now since quadro is still a thing but that is not the direction nvidia is heading. I just simply do not like nvidia, so would like to see AMD cards get a fair opportunity in this arena.
I’m in the same boat. It is absolutely unacceptable that AMD is not being supported. Their drivers are great and the hardware is also amazing. They don’t cost a fortune and they’re very practical.
