How can i return back to IOS 5.3? Did you have a tuto for this?

Tomorrow, i Will test with iFlicks!

Or maybe i just buy the Nuc with processor Intel I3 and the aTV3!!!

I think it’s better solution!!

Hello, I test to convert an episod of dexter with Aimersoft Video converter Ultimate, and it works. I can play on aTV with PlexConnect.

So my question is : Is it possible to convert automatically when the movie is launch by plexConnect?

If it's not possible, did you know a free software (like Aimersoft or Iflick) for Windows to convert movies?

I don't think that conversion can be activated when the movie is launched by PlexConnect. That's why Plex transcoder exists, to make the conversion in real time (although the final result is not saved in disk, it is just streamed to the aTV).

A free converter for Windows can be HandBrake. Since you have a NUC that probably is on 24x7 you can batch several conversions and leave them executing during the night. Regarding subtitles, in case you need them, you have two options:

  1. Include SRT files in separate tracks on the M4V/MP4 container -> this way you will be able to choose the applicable "subtitle track" using the aTV playback functions
  2. Leave SRT files as separate files in the same folder where MP4/M4V is stored -> PlexConnect can stream them to the aTV (once selected in the Plex screen), but during playback you cannot use the aTV playback functions to choose another SRT file (you have to stop and go back to the Plex screen)

Option #1 is more flexible provided that you can handle the "codepage problems" that happen very often with subtitles.

Did anybody figure out yet, why PMS on his setup won't transcode? As far as I understand it is an Windows system, so PMS should at least try - maybe generate some waiting time.

But what we have seen, was PlexConnect trying to play NON-TRANSCODED AVIs...

Baa, please see post #4. I think it is a symptom that PMS tried to transcode, but after 2 minutes there was no result. And as the user (post #22) is able to play a converted video via PlexConnect (I suppose encoded with ATV profile), the problem seems to be on the PMS side. F00b4r's post #20 indicates a table with CPU speed comparisons.

The spinning wheel can be a problem of PlexConnect in certain circumstances ? Maybe you can proceed from here.

Hm. I am not going with posts (like #4), but with logs - real evidence, you know.

And the one posted contains NO transcoding request, see post #14 (well, ok... that post is an exception. It's one of mine. :-D):

I probably shouldn't have let the forum shorten the URL... here it is in full:

Edit:

Maybe Arcani could check on his PMS side if it actually tries to transcode while aTV shows the spinning wheel?

since 6.1.1 I've noticed that my plex seems to transcode more than it used to.

MKV H264 files that didn't require transcoding before now do.

I'm guessing at the 6.1.1, I did a lot of changes at once (plexconnect on my synology, synology ds software)

Whats REALLY weird is that I have to have the plexconnect setting of auto or transcode and not directplay or the mkv file won't play and I get the error above.   But on the plex server thats "doing" the trancoding, no transcoding appears to be  happening from the os activity monitor.

When I go to activity I can see the movie is "transcoding (throttled)"

Video: DirectStream

Audio:transcode(aac)

Whats more bizzare is that the file keeps crashing while playing, but the server is IDLE, again, like there is no real transcoding happening.  Then the movie crashes, I resume and then in Plex it says "no transcoding".

What the heck!?

@Arcani01, back to your avi file, please review your Plex transcoding advanced settings. There are recommendations for not so fast CPU's, such as not using "make my CPU hurt".

Regarding video conversion, you may also try XMedia recode. I've never used it myself, but unlike Handbrake, it can also remux, making the conversion faster, for example in the case of mkv's whose video is already encoded in H.264 (although I'm convinced that PMS in your NUC can remux "on the fly").

Create a new thread with the info requested in the sticky please as it is just confusing hijacking an existing thread that is only vaguely related.

Baa, How can i do that?

Moody_blue, where i can find this option? On my PMS?

Open PMS (the page where you define your libraries). There is a Settings icon on that page (close to top right). Click of that icon and a new page will appear. Click "Server", "Show Advanced", and then "Transcoder", and the various transcoding parameters will appear.

It's ok when i chose : prefer encodage speed in PMS and Transcode in PlexConnect. But now, how can i optimize the transcode. I see there many advanced option. How can i do to make the play more fast. Because when i want to advance on my movies, i wait approximately 30sec to 1min...

Well, we have advanced from a situation where your NUC could not even transcode, to a situation where it can transcode, although not with adequate performance. To be honest, I don't know what are the parameters (PMS and PlexConnect) that can be used to achieve an acceptable compromise. I really think that f00b4r / Baa / Roidy should take it from here.

The transcoderaction in PlexConnect should be Auto so that PlexConnect can decide when to transcode or not. If PlexConnect makes a "bad decision" (you receive the message "An error occurred loading this content") you need to post the "mediainfo" of the file, plus other info that the experts will request. Regarding the "performance problem", probably there are parameters that, sacrificing the image quality (see post #11), could work in your case.
