  • Your ATV model (2 or 3) and firmware version (found under the ATV settings > general > about > Apple TV software): aTV 3  running 5.3(6105)

  • The DNS server set on the ATV (found under the ATV settings > general > network > DNS): 192.168.0.2

  • A detailed description of the issue (the clearer you can make this the better): Like the above details say that I downloaded the lastest GITHUB version of PlexConnect and have followed all the instructions to the dot (as to my understanding). I am able to view PLex on my aTV3. I can see movies and TV shows listed. I can see the movie info everything. But when i try to play a movie i get the error msg "An error occurred loading this content". from some other post that I have read I tried pressing the play/pause button on atv remote and the movie does not play.

Could you do two things please?:

  1. restart PlexConnect and capture the log file from startup
  2. give details of an example of one of the files you attempt to play

Hey f00b4r, i know this is a silly question, but i rather feel like an ass by asking it than not doing it properly. How do i restart plexconnect on mac properly. If you could give me the steps to follow… :slight_smile:

Pressing the exit button on the top or restarting your computer will turn it off. Then just reopen PlexConnect

Use CTR+c to shut it down cleanly.
If you just close the terminal window you may get issues restarting it without rebooting your machine.

Shut down PlexConnnect cleanly using CTR+c, then change the following line in settings.cfg, save it and restart PlexConnect:


ip_pms = 192.168.0.2

Hey, thank you that seemed to have worked, its taken me one more step ahead. So now it looks like it will play the movie/tv show but the seems to get stuck at loading the file.

and now its 17:50:21 and the movie has not started playing..
the movies/tv shows are on an external hard drive attached directly to the imac, which is loacted in a different room and runs on WiFi, would this be one of the reason why the streaming has not started?

Hey, I figured what I had done, its all working now. Thank you for creating this app, I bought aTV3 in December hoping there would be a jailbreak and I would get to use XBMC. Thank you so much at last i get to watch my movies/TV shows the way I want to :)

What was the final piece of the puzzle?

I had turned the Force Transcoding option under settings on aTV to TRUE and i guess that was why it wasnt streaming the movie, also I had the Video rate at 1080p, 8mbps.. So i just went into the settings and turned that setting to FALSE and reduced the video rate to 720p. AFter that the streaming worked. Now I have updated the Video rate to 1080p, 40mbps and PERFECT streaming and superb quality.. I am watching BDRIP 8gb file and am enjoying it on my home theatre :)

I have the exact same issue as descibed by squidy_2000. The difference with me is that I don't have the Forece Transcoding option turned on and yet it gives me the same error in the log. When I check the log, each time I try to play a file this is logged:

Can you do two things:


Update to the latest source code for PlexConnect.

If you still get the same issue generate a new smaller log (just restart PlexConnect, reproduce the issue and shut it down, so as not to generate thousands of lines :wink:

Please post in the QNAP thread as that has the package creator and others with the same hardware responding in it.

Media not playing is a very very generic error and you are using something with another layer of complexity in it.
