I additionally have this issue with my shield… roku’s, web client, literally any other method works just fine. This issue is related to plex on android… Nothing to do with PMS or hdhomerun…

So I played around a little bit with when I get the error in Plex and then view same OTA channel/program in another app like Kodi.
When the TV signal is not 100% on Kodi it merely displays an imperfect signal just as if you were using TV natively.
It appears for Plex in such scenarios, it just crashes? Is this the anticipated behavior?

Additional testing…
Playing same channel on Plex Web on Chrome and on the Fire TV (Plex for Andriod (TV) - AFTR) simultaneously and the Fire TV gets the error browser app continues to play fine.
This tells me it’s not the plexserver or tuner but rather the client - Fire TV Cube.

I have started to have the same issue on my Nvidia Shield Pro as well.

Nvidia Shield is running beta 8.12.2.22745 (987e79c0)
PMS is version 1.21.2.3943
Plex Media Server Logs_2021-01-29_09-24-56.zip (8.6 MB)

It happens pretty often but only when watching TV Shows on the Nvidia using shuffle. Any help would be appreciated. I have tried disabling hardware acceleration but that didn’t help any.

Yup. I just started having this issue.

Can’t play any file that is ac3 or eac3 anymore. And up until I went onto the latest Android update (I updated yesterday to android version 8.12.2.22756) the problem just started.

PMS 1.21.2.3943

And these are all files that worked before that update.

I got it working by changing the Passthrough to be Optical regardless

I was having issues with the latest release as well, and changing the Passthrough to Optical seemed to fix it for me as well.

Although it makes no sense as I do not even have an optical cable…

Wow…

I just tried that now and it worked for me too.

Makes absolutely no sense how changing the passthrough to optical fixes this.

Thanks.

I am finding that everything is working fine but when I pause something that it keeps moving ahead when paused.

Also everything appears to be transcoding.

The reason I tried was I found this post:

My playback (on my one test) shows as direct stream and I am not noticing it moving ahead, although I did see another user mention that in another thread

Testing the optical passthrough now to see. I know when I start movies or tv shows, I see a frozen screen and hear audio until it seems the audio catches up to the frame that’s on the screen.

As weird as it sounds… same server and player versions as noted above:

8.12.2.
1.21.2.3943

Started on Friday when i tried to continue watching “the Expanse” and only with that show (any episode any season)… all other videos worked tickety-boo.

Noticed in the Plex Web that The Expanse was also very sluggish. others worked fine.

Changed the pass-through to “optical” as suggested here and problem went away… for clarity no changes made to any hardware (still using HDMI).

Well, I tried changing pass-thru to Optical and no joy. This issue has been going on (for me anyway) since the pre-Christmas update - so almost 6 weeks now. For the last 6 weeks I’ve had to use KODI which I’m happy to say has worked perfectly.

It appears from this thread the issue has been identified - android client devices and the Plex Server not being able to handle EA3. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

Has anyone got any idea if PLEX has recognized this as a bug and if they are working on a solution? If so I can be patient - but if not I can’t rationalize continuing to pay for Plex since I haven’t used it for almost 6 weeks.

?? this is while watching livetv. I don’t have subtitles enabled.

Having the same problem on android mobile, removing subtitles did not fix for me.

Im using plex 8.11.0.22186 same with 8.12.3

Checking in with the same issue here that started a month or so ago on my Chromecast with Google TV. Switching to optical passthrough fixed it temporarily, but breaks again soon after.

Keep getting this error on my phone (samsung galaxy s21 ultra ) I can play through plex website, but not the app.

Have you tried restarting your server? The app is complaining of a security issue.

Yes, I rebooted the server this morning and last night.

Can you restart your server again. Wait 3 minutes before doing anything, then try connecting and playing something from your Android device. Once you get the error, grab the log from BOTH the Android app and the server and send those to me.
