Seems support don’t actually care, I’ll be cancelling my Plex Pass then as the limit bandwidth option breaks devices and that’s the main reason I got Plex pass.
I’m also experiencing this user with most of my user base.
I’ll add that I’m getting this with my Firestick 4k and that disabling the new player resolved the issue. Older non h264 media seems to direct play fine and disabling audio passthrough did not affect anything
Hey, I have the same problem An unknown error occurred while trying to play video plex Is there a solution? nvidia shield tv pro
All android based devices seem to be having the issue after a recent update on them. 4k HDR videos are having the biggest trouble. Many videos that worked before the update no longer working.
Videos play on iOS app though.
I am also getting this error on my Fire TV 4k. Unfortunately, I had to rollback to a previous version. Thought I should chime in as well, maybe enough comments on this thread will give us a much needed update to correct this latest update!
Video is at least playing using the VLC fire tv app and Plex with DLNA as a workaround until it’s fixed.
It will be very much appreciated when it’s fixed
Same here, from a week or so…
All good on my android phone and pc, but my android tv box doesn’t play nothing…
Even disabling the new player doesn’t work, the only solution at the moment is dlna and vlc.
Pls fix this
Windows Server Version 1.18.7.2457
Player Version#: 7.28.0.15501
2019 SHIELD Experience Upgrade 8.1.1 (Released 2/26/20)
Suddenly can’t play most files on my Shield TV Pro 2019… Everything other device works as normal.
My server logs say this:

WTF!!!
UPDATE:
I had moved my Shield from a TV with a new AV receiver to one without. When I enabled “Dolby Audio Processing” on the Shield the issue went away.
Disabling the “New Player” resolved all of my issues.
*.avi (mpeg4/mp3)
PMS - Version 1.18.7.2457
Amazon FireTV App - Version 7.28.0.15501
Same problem here and for quite a while. I already had VLC player on my android. Made the choice to "use external player (setting>advanced>player>use external player). Solved my problem. The only other way I solved my problem was to turn off my wifi. Using cell data and everything worked fine too.
I have had the same issues for a number of weeks. Reading this thread the issue was also resolved by disabling the new player on the android devices.
Any one know if @plex is going to fix this issue? I have updated to the latest versions on server and devices.
Sorry anyone can help me on
Video rendering 30 seconds
Can I make it 10 seconds
I don’t want it 30 seconds but 10
In case it helps some… I was able to get many of the videos that I thought were playing before to play when I make sure to switch the audio to 5.1 which is something that my audio system understands. I would get this error when I would leave it on 7.1 audio.
May not be the fix for everyone’s issue on this thread, but hopefully it helps some
…update this only helped on videos on an android tablet. Not the fire tv
I’ve experienced error in the subject on both new player and old.
same for me, disabling the new player was an instant fix for me, thank god for these forums lol
I have been experiencing the same issue starting today.
I had the first few seconds of a movie and then the Plex app shut down. When I started the app again I got this message.
I am getting this message on all my devices except from web play.
The server and apps are up to date. I already had the new player option turned off because I was unable to play anything.
I tried rebooting the server, the app, unlinking the devices and reinstalling the app without any success.
Same. My trigger seems to be the settings for refresh rate switching and resolution switching set to enabled in the new player. Disabling them on the new player allowed for playblack. It was odd since when the error msg box would display, sometimes in the background the video was actually playing fine.
Simply disabling the new player also seemed to also work, and also allowed for the refresh rate switching to work as well.
Native install of PMS on Ubuntu 18.04LTS - Version - 1.18.7.2457
FireTV App - 7.28.0.15501
I was experiencing the same issue using firestick app last updated feb 17.
Disabling the new video player corrected the issue. Although my wife says it has asked her to enable it again and she has not.
We typically only play OTA recordings made by the plex system.
A failed recording showed these settings
1080i(mpeg2video)
English(AC3 5.1)
no subtitles
