Server Version#: 1.18.4.2171 (docker)
Player Version#: Android 7.26+ (7.27 beta also throws error)
Client Devices: Pixel 3XL, Nexus Player
Hi,
I seem to be continually hitting a playback bug with Android clients 7.26 and above. Roughly 50% of the time my clients will receive a “Playback has stopped because the connection to the Plex Media Server has been lost. Please ensure the server is available and retry.” Browsing media works without issues however, it only seems to affect remote playback as local playback when I’m home doesn’t seem to be affected.
Workarounds:
Downgrade to Android client 7.25 seems to clear this error consistently for me, I never seem to get this error with 7.25. Also, even if I receive this error with 7.26+, playback with the webapp in a browser works 100% of the time. Clearing data and re-logging back in tends to fix the issue for initial playback but the problem comes back after.
Linux Server:
One of my users has a Nexus Player that also has access to a Windows Plex server (unknown version) remotely and never has playback issues with 7.26.
Latest Beta:
I’ve tried a few of the 7.27 client builds but they seem to also exhibit the same issue.
Thanks for posting this. I’m having the exact same issue and I can verify that downgrading to the 7.25 APK fixes the playback issue.
I think this error has been reported multiple times but the other fixes people have mentioned haven’t worked for me.
Some have said there is an option to change the player to the old player in the advanced -> player section but I don’t see that as an option in the latest apk available for android tablets in the Google Play store. I had to sideload the 7.25 apk to get things working correctly.
Hopefully a developer responds to this with a fix. I’d have to have to use an old APK permanently
