Android client (Xiaomi Mibox S) always transcodes even though is set to play original quality

Ok, then you have a different issue. Please start a new thread and provide logs from the app after recreating the problem.

Correct I have both issues. The app performs the same when connected via WiFi or USB to Ethernet adapter.

I seem to have the same issue I think as well. Mibox S using Ethernet adapter will transcode and play SD no matter what settings are set unless manually changed in the movie. Switch to wifi everything works just fine. Direct play and plays HD. I also have a shield and that runs on Ethernet and I do not encounter the same problem. If you would like some logs just let me know.

I have the same problem, mibox s with the UGREEN 3.0 HUB Gigabit Ethernet Adapter.

Speedtest reaches 150mb

Same issue with Mi Box S and ethernet hub TP-LINK UE330, only solution that worked for me was a downgrade to Plex 6.0.1 and setting remote quality to Orginal, my other Mi Box 3 works normal on UE330 and latest Plex app.
Only diference is the Android OS, MB S has a 8.1 and MB3 has 8.0.

Same issue here, using a usb Ethernet adapter, every file in Plex will start with the lower quality setting enabled no matter what I set in the general settings. I can pause during a stream, set to original qualify and it behaves as it should, but only for this specific file. Seems like an odd bug on the server not seeing the available bandwidth from client?

Can confirm this behaviour on MiBox S.
Ethernet = bad transcode.
WiFi = Direct Play

Maybe not related but when turning on subtitles it always transcodes as well.

Have had so many problems and glitches that it feels like an alpha software.

Using Kodi with Plex plugin is rock solid as it seems. No problem with ethernet/wifi/subtitles etc.

Using this until something good happens with androidtv version.

Same issue here, with ethernet, i need tout switch quality but with Wifi that work fine.
ProblĂšme with Plex or with the Android box S?

Experiencing the same , WiFi is direct and good quality, but over usb/Ethernet transcoding at a horribly low bitrate

This sounds awfully like the bug I reported a week or so back and provided logs for on the shield, Ethernet being incorrectly identified as WAN and transcoding,

If this is the same issue, is the bug being fixed?

Is this the same issue?

I have the same problem, mibox s with the UGREEN 3.0 HUB Gigabit Ethernet Adapter.

I’ve tried your LAN setting suggestion (adding my 10.200.0.1/24 network) and it does not work for me. My player is the MiBox S. No matter what quality the client for it still trans codes at the lowest quality. I can clearly see in TauTulli that it is on LAN and not remote. I’ve Tried multiple network adapters. Currently using a Amazon Basics adapter

Sounds like the same bug. I’ve reported it to the team. I do not have an ETA on a fix.

I just want to confirm, having the same issue with the Plex App on my Mi Box S (both upgraded to latest versions available), playing from the Plex Server running the latest version.

Ended up going back to my OpenPHT on Raspberry PI until this problem is fixed, the transcoded video uses the “over internet”-setting, and if I manually choose (for each Play) to use “Original Video” in the Quality Settings in the Player, the video stops and exits to the movie screen again. Have tried to disable “dynamic video quality”, without any effect.

As another post I commented on was closed, I’m posting here. I’m having the same issue with my Mi Box S. When connected via WiFi I have no issues with Plex direct playing my media. As my WiFi is not great I opted to use a USB to Ethernet adapter. When connected with this adapter Plex seems to misidentify my network connection as a low bandwidth connection. This forces Plex to start all media trascoding at horrendous 360p. I can manually adjust the playback quality once playing and it will switch to direct play. This is annoying. This needs to be fixed asap.

Exactly this. It’s more than annoying, it’s just dumb. I bought a lifetime Plex Pass because I use it every day and I deeply appreciate the Plex developers’ effort. I have Roku, Fire, Android (tablet/phone) and PC clients that all work fine, but this one issue is preventing my family from enjoying Plex on our primary TV, where everything else works fine. Android TV has come a long way and is a fantastic platform, please stop ignoring it and fix this!

Hi ! I have the same problem with mi xiaomi mi box s in ethernet the player transcode my video Do you have a solution or not ? Thanks

I just want to confirm that i have the same issues as described above. Hope this will be fixed soon!

I have the same problem on a Skystream 3 Plus running android 8.1. On every startup it fires up transcoding every video file. Tried every setting possible. I’m on a GB LAN connection. I have to change it to original settings every time. Even my 3 year old knows he has to change the resolution or it looks clunky.

I also do not like the FF/RW buttons, and I don’t have a clean ability to move to a specific time during a movie. I have plex running on my Samsung phone, as well as windows 10 devices, and they all do not have these oddities.
