Android devices don’t log in correctly after password reset

I was able to do a password reset and setup 2FA after the email last night. I was able to then reclaim my server. The issue that I’m having that I’m wondering if anyone else is having is that my Google TV streaming device is not working. I was able to login, but that was a nightmare. I had to renter that code and link 6 times before it started to spin. It spun for an hour and when it got to the Home Screen there was nothing. No option to add my server, none of my folders. The “…More” side menu wasn’t even there to try and figure it out.

I will report that it seems to be exclusive to the couple of Google Tv streaming devices that we have. I have not had any issues getting back up and running on a couple of Apple TV’s or my iPhone.

Absolutely.
Orig FireTV 4k stick here…

Had to fight multiple times this morning trying to get signed back in (after having gone through and revoking authorization for all previous allowed apps/browsers).

At first, the 4k stick wouldn’t keep the plex.tv/link code on the screen. It just flashed up briefly and then disappeared… Then after multiple times of force stopping the app and clearing cache, and then data, Amazon notified there was an update available. I thought ‘cool, Plex is on top of it’.

So pulled the update, /link was really slow, but supposedly took (also checked in both the server and the app.plex.tv interface, and both showed the 4k as an authorized device)… Only problem now is that the newest app push (on Amazon) isn’t recognizing the local media server. /facepalm

Seems they’re still ironing bugs out of whatever changes they hammered through.

Thanks for the info. I experienced the same thing. Just kept telling me it expired and I had to keep mashing down on refresh. For Google TV at least, once it stopped spinning there wasn’t any directories. I just waited it out and hopped on the app and then all of a sudden everything was working. :man_shrugging:t4:

Was able to just go through the 4k app, and then manually readd all the sidebar local server links…

Testing as I type this.

I can’t access my own server content on Android devices at the moment - have tried on Samsung Galaxy phone and on Nvidia Shield Pro, but neither shows my server, just the Plex content.

On FireTV Cube here. Completed password reset and now FireTV clients are all messed up. The Sign In code on FireTV waits for about 5 seconds then notifies me the code has expired. Simultaneously, the /link site states Account Linked.
Just tried again (this is about the 5th or 6th attempt) and new error, "Sign in failed. An error occurred while attempting to communicate to plex.tv.
Reinstalling the Plex app on FireTV did not resolve. All other FireTV apps performing correctly.

Same here - took me a while to realise that I needed to reclaim my server - and when I did got access back via web client. But had the same issues as noted above trying to account link Firestick players to server. It’s cycling for ages and when it does finally load up is behaving as if my Plex server is offline (no content / media)?

I had to disable automatic sign-in on my Android TV devices and manually sign-out, then sign back in.

I had to clear the Plex app cache and data for one device that usually only uses my Guest profile because I couldn’t get into my admin account. It was a mess.

No issues on my mobile device though.

LG TV and apple devices seem ok. But I’m still struggling with Android based devices - firesticks basically (OnePlus phone seems ok though).

So I didn’t do anything different than what you all have tried. Mine ended up working.

  1. I reclaimed my server and then I uninstalled the app from Google TV
  2. Installed and cleared cache just to be safe.
  3. Did the dumb code until until it finally took and started spinning.
  4. Waited for it to go to the Home Screen.
  5. Waited an hour or so and then checked back in
  6. Went to side menu and more and I was able to see my server and pin manually.

I believe that I am experiencing the same issue with my Fire TV 4K Max stick after resetting my password. The 4 digit authentication code either would not load or it would time out before I could even type it in. I force stopped the app and cleared cache and data then restarted the app and still had issues. That was this morning. I figured maybe Plex’s servers were overwhelmed with all of the new sign in requests. Will retry tonight after work. Next step will be uninstalling the app then reinstalling and trying again. Just wanted to add my experience here in case developers are watching this issue.

Clear data and cache in the app again, reboot device then log the device back in via the 4 digit code. The app prolly still trying to log-in via the old device token.

Hey thanks for that, had cleared all data and cache - but forgot the reboot. Was able to sign in again on the Fire Stick. :+1:

Also experiencing this problem.

Client: nVidia Shield TV 9.7.0.34811
Server: local 1.28.1.6104 on Ubuntu 20.04.5 LTS

Steps to trigger:

  1. Reset password and invalidate all logins
  2. Claim server to account
  3. Log into Shield using link

→ Plex client pairs and shows the correct account, but home screenspins until the system sleeps. No content (local or streaming) is ever shown.
→ Web client works correctly

Attempted fixes:

  • Reboot client and server
  • Clear data and cache in client and reboot
  • Uninstall and reinstall client and server

This is day 3 of the issue.

Update:

Finally working. I don’t know whether it’s a result of my troubleshooting, or something on Plex’s end, but the sequence that finally worked was:

On the Shield:

  • Delete the local Plex data and cache
  • Uninstall Plex
  • Reboot
  • Reinstall Plex
  • Log in normally

Rebooting without Plex installed seemed to be the key.
