Android_How to play video audio only while device is locked

Hello all. I am reaching out to see if anyone has found a way to do the following…

  • Begin playing a movie via Plex on my Android phone (Google Pixel line). Then lock the phone so that the audio of the movie plays, however the screen is black.

Reason: I like to listen to certain movies, or TV shows, however I don’t want my phone battery to take the hit of being screen on, and video playing for hours on end.

Please let me know if anyone has any tips of ideas to get this working.

I cannot confirm this for an Android mobile…
With iOS it’s possible – however you have to restart playback from the lock screen after switching the display off (and then switching the display off again). Locking the screen the first time will also stop the playback. When re-started from the lock-screen, the audio keeps playing even with the screen powered off.

Not sure… maybe it’s the same on your Android :wink:

Unfortunately I do not seem to have any audio/video controls when my screen is locked for Plex (like when you do when you cast yo a chromecast).

Hopefully maybe someone could give more info here? On how to get the AV controls maybe?
