Ever since the new downloads feature has been released I have experienced on multiple Android devices Plex crashing. When you try to play a movie that has been downloaded to play offline it doesn’t play. Instead what happens is it acts like it’s going to play, then it appears to crash the software, then it reloads and you have to reselect your user profile. Rinse and repeat, doesn’t improve if you try again. One strange thing I noticed is that if you go into the Android app settings and tell it to open with an external player, then if you tell it to use plex as the external player it will then play the movie. But it does so outside of the normal movie library entry. You actually see the name of the movie file, in my case an MKV. So there doesn’t appear to be anything wrong with the movie file that it has downloaded, it’s more something to do with the launching/playing of the movie directly. Same issue on my samsung tablet, i can’t give you logs right now but i will update my post when possible.
I have two fire tablets 8 (8th and 10th generations) that have been de amazonified by the Fire Toolbox, and Plex downloads work just fine on the 8th generation, but the client crashed and reloads on the 10th generation when attempting playback of a download.
So just following up on this as I haven’t heard anything from any Plex employee. It seems that this issue exists for more people than just me. Since it appears that everyone on this thread is a paying plex pass customer could someone from Plex please respond if this is a known issue or not. This does appear to be a bug that needs to be logged and addressed.
Some additional information about this. My plex server is running on a Synology NAS (DS918). Wondering if the problem is not so much the player, but the server. Could the downloaded file be in the wrong format? I have tried turning the “hardware encoding” settings off, but this didn’t appear to fix the problem.
If anyone else with this problem could chime in with their setup maybe we can find if we have similar setup’s that this issue exists for.
