Hello,
I have just started using serenity, its looking great so far apart from a couple of issues that I’ve observed. One of the most important thing to me is the remote navigation, and I couldn’t find a compatible android app to navigate serenity from my phone just like how the plex remote works. Am I missing something or I really need to purchase a dedicated remote?
Thanks!
Hello,
I have just started using serenity, its looking great so far apart from a couple of issues that I've observed. Serenity currently doesn't support the Plex Remote API, it doesn't register with the server as a client that can act as a remote client.
Serenity was designed primarily for use with a Google TV device that has it's own Anymote protocol built into it. So Serenity currently can fling a video from the tablet to a Google TV device and uses the AbleRemote or Google TV Remote app for controling the playback on the TV.
I'll look at adding support later once Plex stops twiddling with the API and clearly documents it. Currently they have an older API, and are working on a newer api in this area that hasn't been publicly documented.
One thing you may want to try if you are looking to control the tablet when it is connected via HDMI output to a TV from your phone, is to look at DroidMote. It comes in both a free client and paid server piece and may work to allow you to use your Phone as a remote control. It claims to work with any application so it might work with Serenity. I haven't tried it myself.

You do need root permissions to use DroidMote.
Thank you for your replies, kingargyle.
I am using Serenity on mk808, an android TV stick and connect it to my TV. Unfortunately I dont have a Google TV for your use case. (In fact I dont know anybody that has Google TV)
I do have DroidMote and have used that to control Serenity, but the interface is clunky, as strangely its directional interface does not support basic 'select' or 'press' action.
Thanks!
Is there a remote app specifically for the mk808? I don’t have one of those devices myself but there are several people using it with Serenity. So maybe they have some other suggestions.
I have used the following app to control my MK809 android tv stick, and it should work with the 808 too..

The fly in the ointment depends on the firmware version of your stick.. the one I've linked above is the latest version
available from the vendor and I know that the most recent version may not function in some situations.. if that happens
a google search for earlier builds of the .apk should sort you out.. The latest version of it broke for me, so I downgraded
to v1.1.0
HTH :)
