Android-TV app UI Issues (flickering, sluggish...)

I constantly face UI related issues on the Adroid-TV version of Plex (not observed this on Web interface).

  1. UI starts ok but if keep browsing (not playing) movies/shows the UI starts to become sluggish after few minutes to the point it becomes extremely un-responsive and only option is to do a hard on/off – this issue is very much reproduceable

  2. UI have a weird issue of flashing/refreshing/flickering type thing…where if you are on a movie page and try to scroll down then every 2-3 secs the page will automatically refresh and go on the top…its like you cannot see the actors or read the reviews as it will keep throwing you back at top of the movie page – this issue is random and does not happen all the time - thinking probably its linked to server doing some content scan but not sure

  3. If Plex-preRolls are enabled then the movie always starts with a Pause; sometimes the movie first frame is displayed - followed by PreRolls (paused) - then Movie (paused)…and the load time of pre-roll is too long (considering the whole meta and prerolls on NVME) – this is a reproduceable issue and mentioned multiple forums online without any resolution

For Android-tv app experience the same on both FireTV (cube) and Nvidia-Shield (pro) devices.

If someone facing similar challanges; let’s highlight so may be (may be) someone from Plex can put some attention to this end-user-experience. And if someone already have some solution would love to hear it with a Big advance Thanks.

I have had this issue for years. Plex know about it. Had a convo with the legend Mr. ChuckPa himself a couple of years ago here on the Plex forums.

Can’t find the topic anymore, as i cant login with my normal Plex account for some reason either.

So, i made a completely new Plex account, and spun up another brand new docker install 2 days ago.

To no avail, the brand new Plex Docker Install on a completely different Plex account, also has this interface flickering bug.

The bug is related to scanning new media, i am 100% sure, since it only does it when you add new media or when it is updating the metadata. Also, this behavior only happens on my main admin account.

If i make another home user account and switch over to that, there is no flickering of any kind, neither on the web interface or in the Android Plex app.

Think i have had that bug for 4-5 years atleast, on my main normal Plex account. ChuckPa at the time said it was a very strange bug, that should be related to my account. He couldnt fix it, 4 or 5 years ago.

So, i am pretty sure it has to be a bug, that, when you scan new media or update metadata, the interface is going insane with constant flickering, until the scan or metadata update is done. It is almost to the point where it makes Plex completey unusable.

There is also another Reddit user who answered a couple of months back, that he has that same issue.

So i am not thinking this bug is related individual accounts, i think it is a more wide spread bug.

Gonna tag ChuckPa, and hope he joins this conversation. So we can get to the bottom of this flickering issue…
