On my android clients (Nvidia Shield Pro, Sony TV, all wired, local) Plex has been extremely slow when opening the app, when clicking on a show/movie and finally when loading the cast for that content. Playback seems unaffected, it streams flawlessly, it’s just when loading the app or any content.
It started happening sometime in late may, I suspect an update then created this issue. I have other clients (Apple TV, Mac, web, all wired and local too) that are not affected either, it seems to be happening exclusively on android tv devices, already tried deleting data, reinstalling the app and resetting that device, nothing has helped and I don’t see more posts talking about this, any ideas?
Same problem. I’ve had to unplug the TV in some cases because Plex is such a resource hog that it makes the entire device unresponsive. The problem started recently. I can use Jellyfin against the same server and it works flawlessly.
100% of the time, clearing the app cache from the device app settings fixes the problem (temporarily) but this does not address the root of the problem which is that Plex is caching way too aggressively.
I mean in mine it just takes a little over a minute to open Plex, it just stays there on the logo and content takes maybe 20-30 seconds to load, playback and streaming are perfect, it’s just the load times that are killing me.
Tried installing an older version of the app, same problem, what worries me is that I don’t see anyone else complaining about it, makes me think maybe it’s something else wrong, not the app.
Tried jellyfin too, flawless overall, if it wasn’t for the awful ui on JF, I would’ve left Plex already and to think I almost paid lifetime last sale.
