On Windows clients: Everything is fine. Plex loads quickly.
On Android (even on high end devices) the app takes ages to load and clearly does loading differently compared to windows. Why does it take almost a minute until every icon is there? I am on 10.26 apk because the “new experience”… Let’s better not get there.
All I can definetely exclude is network or server performance as the reason for that behaviour. I can narrow it down to clearly being the android version that is the problem here. Windows clients play perfectly even on lower end devices (Celeron N3450 being the lowest end device I have).
Even my smartphone is way faster than this 10 year old celeron, but it takes almost a minute to show plex media libraries. how can this be fixed?
I’m on version 10.26 (apk) and it takes about 30 seconds to “find” the server content while just showing the loading circle on every device and network (ONLY on android). newest Fire Stick 4K Max, new snapdragon or mediatek smartphone, it makes no difference… so it is NOT a performance issue, because on the same network it just loads instantly on any windows device (even on an old low spec celeron). it is the way plex handles loading on android devices clearly. I don’t know if it is the handshake over plex remotely or the database being too large or the nginx proxy in between, but it is obviously different (and the way it was intended) on any windows device you could get.
so network speed and client performance are two big factors that I can completely take out of the equasion here and save a lot of time when it comes to troubleshooting.
what I narrowed it down to is clearly the OS. In my case being android as the culprit (or better: the way plex handles it on that specific OS).
