First off, I want to give high praise for the Plex Android TV app and its UI for Nvidia Shield TV. I absolutely love it and the Android TV OS Material Design UI in general. I used to have to spend hours and hours tweaking a Kodi skin to get it just right and look somewhat modern in terms of UI design and aesthetics. Once got the Shield TV and Plex on it, I was 100% happy without any tweaking at all!
This question/feature request is for the Plex app for the Android TV OS running on Nvidia Shield TV. My PMS server is a Windows 10 PC. All network cabling is CAT6 and all related NICs, switches and routers are all connected at 1 Gbps.
When scrolling down through a Plex library on the Shield TV, it takes a second or so to pull/download the poster art for movies. It also takes a half second to load the background art when selecting the movie. I’ve noticed other Plex clients and Kodi apps display the art instantly. Once the poster art is initially downloaded, it stays temporarily as long as you are in the same Plex library. However once you go back to the Android OS home screen and then go back into Plex, the poster art has to redownload again. It’s a minor issue, but it IS annoying coming from Kodi which seems to cache all the poster art after the initial download. This makes it where you don’t have to redownload art every single time you go to a media library. Scrolling through large movie libraries instantly shows the art.
Is there some way you can change the Plex app to cache all the poster and background art in Plex and only need to redownload it if the art was changed on the Plex Media Server side? Or is this an Android TV limitation? I don’t remember this being an issue with Kodi on Android TV though. But I need to double-check that.
