Android TV Release Time frame?

We have the new experience on mobile, round, iOS TV. when will it be released in Android TV? Really like the new layout and looking forward to the TV release.

I’m actually surprised its one if the latest os to get the update.

My hope: only after all the features that they killed have been worked around by any other app they are having (like the music app, the photo app and the server management app).

Since none of these apps are available of Android TV, I would be disappointed if they kill these features permanently for me.

Same here. I am not looking forward to losing photos and music on my TV. They need to rethink their strategy.

There are loads of clients still missing.

We have released an experience preview for AppleTV and Roku only to this point. It isn’t one of the last ones to get the update, just one that we haven’t released publicly for feedback yet.

While we haven’t put something out there, work is going full force on Android. I don’t have information as to when this might be publicly available however.

Forgive me for asking a slightly off-topic question, but this is the most recent news I’ve heard concerning internal efforts.

Is work going full force on Android (mobile) or Android (TV)? I am hoping the former, as there are so many unresolved issues, so much so that the Play Store rating is (relatively speaking based on prior review momentum) plummeting, and it’s my hope that mobile is being addressed first.

Both. While it isn’t a 50/50 split, we are working hard to both get the TV clients closer to release while also addressing things on the mobile side of things. This is more than just bug squashing - it includes things like refactoring parts of the experience alongside our design team. I’m not going to get into anything deeper here mainly because this effort is ongoing across multiple teams and I don’t have visibility across all of the teams - but we are working on both mobile and TV right now.

Will Android TV getting the new experience be in the year 2025?

With the subtitle issues I’ve seen mentioned in other threads, and the continuing lack of any official way to edit/change the clear logos, we will NOT be updating to it.

Hey what’s up whats the word

Please leave the original Android TV version as a “classic” version. I don’t want to lose access to the old UI.

Please DO NOT ever release the new version for Android. You have completely ruined the Plex functionality and experience on Roku!!! I am highly regretting the purchase of the Plex Pass recently with this stunt.

Fingers crossed!

Forcing this on users is a horrible choice by Plex. I’m already looking for alternatives just in case but hope against hope it doesn’t come to that. This used to be such a good product.

If they roll it out as was done for the mobile platforms, it will land in beta first. It still hasn’t been promoted to “GA” on the mobile side. Hopefully the same will be true for the big-screen Android apps as well.

Waiting .. What’s taking them so long?

Not waiting at all. You can see from multiple voices in the Roku threads, that it seems to be barely usable on any TV format. Not sure what you’re waiting for…. a wonder?

You’re referring to a very vocal minority, and many of them are people experiencing bugs with their specific installs and Who Moved My Cheese types.

The Roku user I deal with has not even mentioned the new interface, despite going back and forth between it and Android TV devices where the difference would be noticeable. That’s probably because they don’t browse full Library views much (moreso browsing recently-added content from the home screen hubs and following shows with Continue Watching).

Despite the numerous threads claiming Plex changed the home screen substantially (and maliciously), the home screen on their Roku device did not change at all. The Continue Watching hub is still at the top, and has all the content it did before, the personally-hosted media hubs were still on the home screen (and in the same order). Literally NOTHING changed, except the navigation changes with the sidebar and the Clear Logos on preplay screens. And I know from server metrics this user has been watching content on the Roku as well. I haven’t heard a peep about playback issues.

Now, if this user consumed lots of contents with subtitles, like me, then there might be some issues. But for a lot of people their regularly-watched shows are pretty pedestrian in the codec dept and are in their native language.

“Barely usable”.

Gimmie a break.
