Minor update to agent to avoid unnecessary logging released - v11. See first post for installation instructions as usual.
I'm having a lot of problems getting Plex to realize that some of my Animes have more then one season. Sometimes the "second season" to a show is more like a "Sequel".
Like in the case of "Bakemonogatari", the sequel is called "Nisemonogatari" but I'd rather just call it "Season 2" so I put the series in a folder called "Season 2" inside the "Bakemonogatari" folder.
But it doesn't show up. Only "Bakemonogatari" "Season 1" shows up.
Other examples are "Seikon No Qwaser" where the sequel (or season 2) is called "Seikon No Qwaser II". If I want the show to show up at all I'd have to put it outside as its own show but if I had to do that with every anime then they'd be impossible to find and watch in the correct order.
Some Animes have OVAs as their sequels in betwene seasons. For example "Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu" have an OVA as its sequel with just 2 episodes. Then the OVA have it's own sequel which is called "Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu Ni!".
Plex skipps the OVA in this case and only shows the two seasons.
To get around this I have started naming the folders like this:
1. Season 1 2. OVA 3. Season 2
When simply browsing the folders in Windows this naming scheme is best suited for my needs.
Also there are 8 animes that doesn't even show up after it's done scanning.
Hellsing - Dawn Black Rock Shooter Howl's Moving Castle Last Order - Final Fantasy VII Lovely Complex Mass Effect - Paragon Lost My Neighbor Totoro Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea
Some of the entries are "Movies" but shouldn't they show up anyway since they do so in anidb?
At the very least is there an option available for me to see everything in a folder-view and let me have the shows show up as I want em?

Well, firstly, aniDB handles all shows as separate shows, not seasons so that's nothing to do with Plex. Hence, if you try to scan a show that according to aniDB only has one season, you will only get metadata for that one season. Secondly, if Plex cannot find some of your files it's most likely due to naming or video codecs. TV shows are named differently from movies normally, so you should try to separate them according to what they are. OVA's are a tougher beast, sometimes it works best to put them in a movie section, sometimes in a TV show section. You just have to try. And no, there's no folder view. That and how the scanner finds files are core Plex issues and should be addressed to those developers - the agent just supplies metadata to an identified file.
Would it be possible for you to make the script search by filename in addition to CRC? I have anime that I have ripped and muxed myself, and as a result does not have any CRC in AniDB, yet I'd like to use the metadata from there.

It does search by filename (or rather by show/movie name as determined by scanner) as a fallback if the crc lookup fails. Does it not work for you. If not, post a log file with output from when you try to match the file and I'll have a look.

I have attached the log (com.plexapp.agents.anidb.log). What I did was to make a new section, select my folder with animes, set the metadata agent to AniDB and let it scan. I also used the "Force refresh" option from the menu to see if that helped. But I do not get any metadata.

You seem to be running an outdated version of the agent, the log file complains about code lines that aren't there anymore. Try to update it and see if it works better for you.

I am pretty sure I used the v11 from the OP. Isn't that the latest?
EDIT: Downloaded the v11 again and replaced the one I had, just to be sure. Might seem to work better now.
First, thanks for the plugin,
I have an issue; I have my user and password in the settings of the plugin, but it's not showing anything as a result when I try to match One Piece, I have one folder with the episodes named this way : "One Piece S01E001", and the scanner is showing one season, and all the episodes, but the plugin can't recognise it.
help!
----- Edit ----
Now, it recognise the show, does the plugin download titles and plot for each episode?

AniDB does not contain episode summaries as far as I know, only titles for each episode.
EDIT: How does this plugin handle specials? For example, if I want it to pick up Another Epilogue from Angel Beats properly, how should the file be named?

As hekesang wrote, only titles will be set - there is no plot in AniDB.

See here for how to handle the files structure wise - http://wiki.plexapp.com/index.php/PlexNine_PMS_Naming_Guide#Specials. As for the plugin, I haven't really handled that case so I assume it won't work. I'll see if I can test this, but don't expect an answer shortly (lots of other stuff happening  ).

I know how to handle the file structure, i.e. I am able to make it show up in the Special season, but the special episodes seem to be labeled with the same names as the season 1, so I don't actually get correct info by naming them 0x02 etc.
Hi. I have gotten it working somewhat now but for the Anime I am trying to match, Fairy Tail, it sets the 'sort title' as the episodes name and not the actual title. This means that when I browse the list, I still see it all listed as Episode X where X is the episode number and not the episode title. However, when I click edit on an episode, I see that it successfully set the episode's title to be the sort title according to the title given at AniDB.
How can this be fixed?

As far as I know the sort title cannot be set by an agent, at least there's no mention of it in the dev doc's and I cannot find it in any of the agents included by default.

Ok, I've updated the agent to handle specials - please get the latest version and try it out!

Hmm, then I am not sure what is going on. All of my episodes are still titled Episode X, where X is the episode number.
My episodes are all in a folder named "Fairy Tail" and named like so: "Fairy Tail - e01". Is this incorrect? I believe there are no seasons on AniDB so I did not make season folders and season labels as I do for all other TV shows.
Looking through the log (attached), it does seem to be updating the Metadata but it is not reflected on the show list. Oddly enough, if I use TheTVDB instead of AniDB, I get titles for the first 48 episodes, but no more. This I presume is because TheTVDB starts 'season 2' from 48 onwards but even making season labels and folders did not allow for naming of episodes beyond 48. AniDB does not label any episodes with their titles.
Hopefully the log will prove useful and a solution could be found. Thanks a lot!

The metadata seems to be loading correctly, and since you mentioned that the episode is correctly titled when you look at the one by one, I assume this has to do with the web framework of Plex or something. If the metadata is there when you try to edit an episode, there nothing more the agent can do. Have you tried to empty your browser cache and list the episodes again? I know that the listing isn't properly updated if you just match the series, you need to reload the listing page again (at least I do).
I'm sorry for any confusion, but it is the 'sort title' that is labeled but not the episode title. I don't think AniDB had anything to do with the Sort Title as it has only applied to the first 48 episodes (seen as Season 1 on TheTVDB). Here is a screenshot showing what is happening:
To avoid any confusion, the first episode really is titled Fairy Tail even though it is the same as the Anime's title.
Little bit confused, the summery descriptions for each episode of the anime series isn't transferring over. For example the first few episodes of the http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=4563 (death note series) isn't downloading to my episodes.
