Please add ability to view GIFs when using an Photo library. This is a very common file format on social media sites and I have many on my Plex server but whenever I open on up I get a still image. Please fix!
Ah, you mean animated GIFs. That all depends on the client, since Plex utilzes the built in players, there isn’t much that can be done. PHT is the only player they have control over, but I don’t know if that supports animated GIFs, never tried honestly.
Firefox supports animated GIFs, but Plex Web on Firefox doesn’t animate them.
Correct, but photos are played back using a JS based player, it’s not regular html, so that player needs to support the gif to display the animation.

I’m not sure why you would view animated GIFs using Plex but I voted for you anyways.

Definitely +1 this. It feels like Gif’s have only gotten more popular over the years. Right now they just appear as a static image of the first frame, which sucks.
I’d love the ability to do what Netflix does on their detail page, showing a short video or maybe an animated gif.
I agree, animated GIFs would be great for TV episodes, music artists or in the photo library.
Please note that there is another feature suggestion for GIFs, so one of them should be closed to avoid splitting votes.

Then there people like me who like to archive their favorite memes - to include ones in gif format - and scroll through them via a Plex photos library. Gif’s that won’t play are a definite bummer…sigh.

Agreed. I’m working on moving some photos into Plex, but am disappointed that GIFs do not animate at all on my MacBook client. (Haven’t tried the web or phone yet, but mass-photo management feels to me like a mouse thing). Either way, if QuickLook can animate GIFs, I think Plex ought to as well.
