Annoying issue with playback on intel integrated graphics cards

Server Version#: 4.100.1
Player Version#1.38.2.3738-02a27646
I have a problem on the htpc plex that when I go to play anything the screen goes black and it doesn’t play anything it only starts playing when I press the right key to advance 30 seconds I’ve tried it on windows on Linux I’ve reinstalled it several times and even tried other codecs nothing else works, the strange thing is that on another pc with an nvidia gtx 750 it works more on an intel celerom 3215U it doesn’t

Does this happen all the time or a lot for you?

I’ve noticed this using Windows 10, but it doesn’t happen enough for me to be considered obnoxious….Yet

If I start a video, I get the black screen but usually I just click the rewind button once and that’s enough to kick it into gear and it starts playing

I have mostly a mix of 720p or 1080p, h.264 mp4 or h.265 mkv. I can’t say if it happens more with one or the other

I had a laptop and some old SFF machines laying around so I tested all these

i5-2540M
i5-2400
i5-2500
i7-2600

I thought it might be related to 2nd gen but apparently not

I have noticed it happens more frequently on the very first video I start after I turn everything on, but not always

Can you provide application logs containing one of these playbacks?

ok but where are the plex htpc logs

Easily found with a quick web search for plex htpc logs: https://support.plex.tv/articles/plex-htpc-logs/

Ok it’s here but I noticed something this is happening more often when I send it to my TV through the laptop’s hdmi then it gives more that I’ve tried to change the audio settings but even so
Plex HTPC.log (271.6 KB)

In the logs above, it looks like you started playback and then stopped it. It didn’t include a seek actually causes the playback to start according to your OP.

It appears that you stopped playback while it was still starting. This was about 8 seconds after you first initiated it. 5 of those seconds was spent seeking in the file and waiting for data from the server and 2 of them were spent downloading a codec. It was setting up the opengl output when you stopped playback.

Could you post logs which include:

  • Starting playback
  • Waiting at least 10 seconds with nothing happening (longer is better)
  • Performing a seek which then actually starts playback

sorry for not replying i was solving some problems but this one here ah it was the second playback because i forgot to turn on the hdmi and more than 40 seconds passed
Plex HTPC.log (487.8 KB)

I’m seeing you stopping playback after a few seconds in each of the playbacks in your logs and not a seek. I asked for the seek because I wanted to see what is different when it actually plays.

Also, I’m seeing the logs indicating failures with audio devices. Sometimes it uses the Alto-falantes Realtek(R) Audio and sometimes it is using LG TV (Áudio Intel(R) para telas). In the latter cases it attempts to use EAC3 passthrough which fails as unsupported. Perhaps these are your issues.

And you’re right, my TV is only compatible with Dolby Digital. I tested it with content in AC3 and AAC and it worked perfectly, but with EAC3 turned off in the settings, it’s still causing the playback to get stuck.

more because on the other pc with an nvidia video card it doesn’t give that the reproduction is stuck and on my tv even an eac3 content (dolby digital plus) that is not compatible on the tv it says that it is using dolby digital?

want me to send the logs from the other pc

Also in your logs is it attempting to use the system decoder eac3_mf (eac3) - EAC3 via MediaFoundation (also called Microsoft Dolby Digital Plus Decoder MFT). Perhaps this decoder in your system is broken and maybe it isn’t present on the other working machine? You could try uninstalling this component and restarting HTPC to see if that makes a difference.

HTPC is capable of transcoding EAC3 → AC3 to keep the surround sound in cases where AC3 passthrough is supported. That’s likely what the other PC is doing.
