Another file naming question - Folder names

I was curious how you would suggest handling this one. Take Jimi Hendrix for example. According to MusicBrainz, his recordings were released under (basically) three different artist names: “Jimi Hendrix”, “The Jimi Hendrix Experience”, and “Jimi Hendrix Experience”. There are a couple others but these are the primary ones. My files are getting tagged properly via MusicBrainz Picard, but…

Do I need a separate main artist subfolder for each of these three? Or can I put them all under one artist folder titled “Jimi Hendrix” if the individual files are tagged with the proper meta data?

/Music
/Jimi Hendrix #regardless of artist name
      /Album
         music files
      /Album
         music files

OR

/Music
/Jimi Hendrix #specific artist name per MusicBrainz
      /Album
         music files
    /The Jimi Hendrix Experience
      /Album
         music files
    /Jimi Hendrix Experiences
      /Album
         music files

Or perhaps either works? Many thanks again in advance.

You can handle this as you please.
But the first version will probably combine all albums under one artist only.

If you have enabled “Prefer local metatags”, you need to use the second version if you have tagged the “album artists” of all these different band distinctly.
Otherwise Plex may collect them all together under a common name. And which name that is, is not possible to foresee.

(Besides, personally I think there is no point in distinguishing these bands from each other.)

Thank you for the amazingly fast reply. While I did enable “Prefer local metatags”, I also agree with you in that I don’t see the point of distinguishing them. So I think I will give the first example a try first and see what happens. It’s easy to go back and fix if things get too weird.

This is the exact reason I embarked on the arduous task of renaming/retagging my entire digital music collection. Was getting some really weird combinations.
