I currently can play Live TV remotely (i.e. - cell phone or out of state etc.) using my HDHomerun Prime (cable card tuner) through my Plex server. Sometimes I have buffering issues remotely using either my Nvidia Shield or my Synalogy NAS DS218+.
What I haven’t been able to find out is if I do a Windows PC based Plex server with a GPU, will that benefit Live TV? If not, I don’t want to waste money on it. I know it works well with stored media, but the Live TV aspect is an unknown for me.
I’m running pms on a dedicated server (win10 IoT Enterprise LTSC), using a ryzen 5 7600.
I use an antenna with an hdhomerun connect (dual tuner).
I believe there’s something with the formatting, going from an ‘i’ to ‘p’ (1080i to 1080p) where hw transcoding can’t be done, so the server has to perform the transcoding in software.
I’m not quite sure why, so I asked the question. it probably has something to do with hw transcoding blocks where software transcodes the individual pixel, but that’s speculation.
