Hi there just wanted to know if you had any plans to do an app for the iphone, to control the plex interface, much like how i use to do with the xbmc before i discovered you guys…

I think it’s unlikely that the core developers will start developing a Plex remote for the iphone, though someone else could always fill that gap and some have in fact started projects for dedicated Plex remotes. I don’t believe any of those were ever completed however.
There are also a bunch of remote apps that offer some sort of Plex support as one of their features.
Among others a search for “iphone remote” brings up these threads that have some information on ongoing and abandoned projects.

i dont think we're going to see anything of XBMCremote sort for Plex till library overhaul is completed.
Other remotes for iPhone are nice addition and i own them all (XMOTe , Rowmote and Snatch ) but neither comes even close to XBMCremote app.

Ladies and Gentlemen, and members of the room… A good friend of mie worked out how to use the XBMC remote control to use with plex perfectly. Artwork showing up and everything… looks excellent, and made plex a whole lot better for me on the iphone…
how does it work with PMS shares ? Like aperture and iphoto , does it show picture on the phone ? same with apple trailers , iplayer and other plug ins , what does it show on the phone display ?
basically, you coverflow and and dvd thumbnails show up in the list when you scroll through the library. Have not tried how the photos look as of yet though. Was only concerned with the videos for streaming purposes..
so did you download some kind of update or something to make it work wih plug ins and such ? cuz out of the APPLEs app store it doesnt show thumbs for apple trailers PMS plug in , for example.
Anyword on how to achieve this?

What I basically did was this....
When you open up the xbmc app on the phone you would as normal add host and give it a name or title
you then need to put in the port, and host/ip. You will find the port when you open up plex, scroll down to preferences, then go to network and click on server.
Make sure to click the enable web server button. Directly underneath you will find the web server port number to record into the phone.
The ip for plex if you don't already know it can be found when you scroll down to the quit button and press the "I" for information.
Once you have put those details into the phone you should be away, cover flow showing and everything. You don't need to worry about a password if you don't want to. I didn't bother with it....
Thats all it is... Any problems report back i will try to explain it again, but you should be ok with it, quite straight forward ;)

Also, I tried the XMBC remote app myself but no success. Perhaps it’s something with my router though, I’ll try something different when I get back home.
EDIT: MrBeeks, what port are you using? I’m thinking this might be my issue with the XMBC remote app. I like the solution I found but the XMBC remote app is a lot more streamlined
you can find your port when you scroll down to the quit button, press it then go to the infirmation button ( i icon) it is called the web server port you will find it there

Apple recently updated remote.app for iPhone. Something similar would be pretty cool for Plex: Remote

It’s very basic so far, but it supports gestures to swipe up, down, left, and right to control the interface. Once I have the first beta release, I’ll post a new topic and people can start giving feedback. For now, please try it if you want to, but its still very much in development.

Remote Buddy does everything I want and then some. They are working on a native iPhone app ATM. Out of all the remotes I’ve used it is hands down the best.
