Recently got an Alpine ilx-007 and would love, love, love to control and stream music through Plex in it 
The integrated software is heavily restrictive. I’d suggest using AppRadio Unchained Reloaded + Chromecast (screen mirror).
I do it every day with Plex for commutes. It’s awesome and works perfectly. Just make sure it’s compatible with your unit.
