Any way to make Plex filter or sort by "contributing artist"

Hi, I’ve been experimenting putting music on with Plex. The problem I have is that Plex only see an artist as “Album artist” and almost all of my albums are compilations so I only have one artist showing - “Various Artists,” and none of the plexamp features work properly as Plex gets it’s metadata info from the albums not from the tracks.

Is there any way at all I can sort or filter by Contributing artist? Is there any way I can bodge it to have the contributing artist show as an artist in Plex/Plexamp e.g. by using different directory structure and symbolic links or custom tags.

This seems like a really fundamental feature missing from Plex, even windows media player legacy shows contributing artist and can sort in a nice list and scroll quickly through.

If it can’t be done now - will this be implemented in the future?

EDIT - It looks like Emby has this feature, so c’mon Plex, sort it out!

I dont see a way to do it, even in the advanced sorting filters. Honestly, i dont find plex to be that good for music. Its missing a lot of basic sorting functionality that still make itunes better.

Thanks for the reply, yeah I think it has a long way to go, the obsession with album over singles seems a really odd choice.
