Any way to make Plex show filenames only?

It does a terrible job of guessing titles, and I’d rather it wouldn’t altogether.

My usual use-case is as follows. Say, I’m sharing a full season of “F for Family” and it goes 1.mkv, 2.mkv and so on. I’m not building a local mirror of Netflix here, I just want to watch the latest season, then delete it altogether after a day or two. So I know what 1.mkv and 2.mkv stand for because I just put it into my Plex shared folder on my PC.

Same with other shows/movies. Plex for me is nothing more than a convenient way to watch/fast-forward whatever I happen to have on my PC at the moment. I don’t need a “media library”. I don’t need fancy trailers, backgrounds et cetera. I just want to save myself the hussle of running with a flash drive from one room to another.

Just plain using a DLNA server sucks because Samsung can’t handle proper ff and often chokes on weird formats/containers. None of that happens with Plex.

Server is Plex Win64 latest, client is Samsung SmartTV.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Setup your library as “Home movie” and you should be good to go.
Just be sure that is what you really want as if the files are correctly named then Plex does a rather good job of providing matching and poster art.
I use that part of Plex but I have trailers and virtually everything else, except thumbnails, turned off for my movie and TV libraries.

Thanks, that indeed worked famously.

That’s 100% what I aimed for. I don’t care for poster art, I just want to click on, say, 1.mkv, without guessing whether it’s been renamed to 1 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2518788/reference) or One (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2182316/reference) or something else entirely.

I appreciate the logic behind all this, but again, I’m not building a media library here with fancy, accturate filenames. I’m gonna delete it after one watch anyway.

I just need a player that reliably plays content from my PC on my TV. Anything else is a distraction.

And that seems to do the trick. Again, thanks.

Again, that ■■■■ is proper marvelous: https://i.imgur.com/VeNSsA8.jpg Exactly what I wanted.

Now if only I could update the library with my TV’s remote, I could fall asleep a moderately happy man.

Awesome. Another satisfied customer.

… and you’d make us moderately happy by dragging that jpg to a message window and dropping it - instead of having us go to Spam Central to see it (never saw it - refuse to go to Spam Central).

Hmm. Haven’t thought about it that way in some time. Been using Thumbnail Zoom Plus for Firefox.

The problem is that many (most) of the volunteer help staff won’t help if the material required isn’t right under our eyeballs. It don’t get much easier than a drag and drop - available for all who care to look at it.

My Doctor, no matter how much I pay him, simply won’t do house calls.

I hate to bring it up, but I haven’t received my Plex Volunteer Support Staff Payment in - ever - so it better be pretty easy to help or I’m going to lose interest.

lol
