I'd love to be able to shuffle playlists that I've made.
Also often I'm browsing through channel videos and have the desire to add them to my myplex queue (how I save videos for viewing later or favorite web videos in Plex)

Looks like the latest commit has added a shuffle option for playlists!
Only issue I have with it is that is seems to always start with the first item in the playlist before the shuffle kicks in.
Also (maybe not directly a PlexConnect thing), is there a way to skip to the next show other than fast forwarding to the end?
Thanks to the devs for adding shuffle! I haven’t used it enough to see if it always plays the first item but hopefully that can be resolved
See github's commit comment:
- Watch out: The first video won’t shuffle. Never. By Design.
This is caused by how the video player is created/used right now. I am afraid, this will stay that way for now - always thinking about improvements...
I don't know/don't think so. But you can always press down, then jump through the show - faster than the fastest FastForward. :-)

Thanks, I missed that comment. I think my solution will be just to put a very short intro video at the front of all my playlists.
that's a great idea nosaj72
Here's one I created quickly, if anyone else wants to use it:

Thanks, that's awesome. Came searching for answers, with the assumption that shuffle just wasn't working at all (because of it playing the same first episode every time), saw the reason for it, and saw your solution. I've added the file to the front of my playlist (which meant deleting my playlist and recreating it, because trying to drag it to the top of a ~850 file playlist was not going to happen).
ok, so i was super excited to find this and fix the first-episode issue but i am having major problems.
when i added the file linked above to the beginning of my playlists, plex thinks it can't find any of my shows anymore. i know it can, though, because if i start directly from a different episode it plays just fine. and if i remove the file and hit shuffle it works just fine again.
i seriously am at a loss here. anyone have any ideas? i should note that it works when the files on the playlist are from a local drive rather than a network one. because of that i thought maybe it was because it didn't have enough time to cache or something (since the video is only 2 seconds long), so i added 12 seconds to the beginning of the intro video, and it still does the same thing.
this is bumming me out! anyone know why this would happen?
logs?
here is some of the log. does this help?
[Baa: deleted PMS logs]
No.
a - those logs are PMS ones, not PlexConnect
b - the log is not attached, or linked to somehow. but copied into the message body... :-D
Okay, here is another attempt.
I set loglevel to High, navigated to the playlist—which starts with the plex intro, then has a bunch of episodes of Always Sunny—and hit shuffle. The intro plays, then the rest of the episodes are skipped as plex acts like it can't find the file location.
Does this log tell you anything?
PlexConnect.log (1.15 MB)
Thanks!
>>as plex acts like it can't find the file location.
Hm. Nothing suspicious in the log. Maybe the files are really not there?
What does the following URL give you (taken from you log, line 41349)? Will the video play in your browser?
http://10.0.1.28:32400/video/:/transcode/universal/start.m3u8?maxVideoBitrate=40000&videoQuality=100&subtitleSize=100&fastSeek=1&partIndex=0&session=DM1HC0P4DDR5&skipSubtitles=1&audioBoost=100&protocol=hls&path=%2Flibrary%2Fmetadata%2F60524&videoResolution=1920x1080&directStream=1&X-Plex-Platform=iOS&X-Plex-Model=3%2C1&X-Plex-Client-Capabilities=protocols%3Dhttp-live-streaming%2Chttp-mp4-streaming%2Chttp-streaming-video%2Chttp-streaming-video-720p%2Chttp-mp4-video%2Chttp-mp4-video-720p%3BvideoDecoders%3Dh264%7Bprofile%3Ahigh%26resolution%3A1080%26level%3A41%7D%3BaudioDecoders%3Dmp3%2Caac%7Bbitrate%3A160000%7D&X-Plex-Client-Platform=iOS&X-Plex-Client-Identifier=DM1HC0P4DDR5&X-Plex-Device=AppleTV&X-Plex-Product=PlexConnect&X-Plex-Platform-Version=6.2&X-Plex-Device-Name=Apple+TV&X-Plex-Version=0.4-dev
Edit: Argh. Got to replace the & by &... done.
the files are definitely there, because if i manually play any episode in the playlist it plays fine. it also plays fine if i remove the intro file and then hit shuffle.
the link you posted also plays fine in my browser.
Does the intro file solution work for anyone else (i haven't seen this clearly confirmed as working in practice)?
Baa, anything to do with the very short length of the intro file not triggering parts of the code?
i use the intro file to stuff.e my music video section.. works like a charm
