Apparently actual support is too much to ask for

It seems getting any kind of help, or even acknowledgment, is a bridge too far for Plex. I got a lifetime plex pass specifically to use the live tv and dvr feature and they can’t seem to get it to work reliably and as far as I can tell aren’t even trying. They certainly never notice when people post specific issues. I wish to god they had a real competitor.

All these media software have their strengths and weaknesses. I tried the Plex Live TV/DVR back in the day and it wasn’t for me. Tried Channels and didn’t look back. Channels has it’s own weaknesses though. No Roku client is tough for me as I’m an all Roku house. And Channels also only uses HDHomeRun hardware. But the Channels files play flawlessly in Plex. And it has lots of features to love.

Good Luck,

Chris

I’ve NEVER been able to get it to work. Tune a little, sure, but watch? hell no. Record? even more no. Waste of money.

Plex has no support. None. It’s a joke.

For each tuner device turn off “CONVERT VIDEO WHILE RECORDING” especially if your system doesn’t have a video card for transcoding. Also, if you have signal problems getting to the tuners plex is using will cause playback and recordings to fail like no other.

I have 2 HD Homerun Quadro’s and record just about every prime time show in my area. Some channels are worse due to not being able to receive them well, even directly on a TV, but over all it does work for me.

First, I’m using convert video while recording. Second, I get strong signal on almost all channels. I live in a suburban area and use a rooftop antenna. Third, this is not a post talking about a specific issue. It’s about the fact that I paid my hard earned money to use a product that can’t seem to consistently deliver the features that I specifically paid for and their support is non-existent, period. The fact that they leave their “support” up to the community for a paid product is ridiculous. If I were only using features from the free product then I could understand it, but the fact that they don’t provide even a modicum of real support for paid features is maddening.

Well, Plex is not a “paid” product. It is a product that has a tier that has extra features but you are paying for neither the base product nor the “enhanced” product.

But, having said that, I recommend dropping Plex because of their poor treatment of the customers and their greed. I do not ever condemn a company for trying to make money but has passed from “trying to make money” to “let’s get all we can from our users and screw then if they complain or want something that is not in our plans…”
After all Plex is always right and, if you don’t believe me, just ask them and. if they decide you are worthy, they will answer in a way that says nothing.

Switch to Emby, you will be a lot happier.

Yep same here - Live TV totally unstable and dropping out every 5mins (can sometimes get to 30min if I am lucky) yet works perfectly via VLC and other apps.

When you check the forums it is actually shocking the number of posts about this (going back months), and still total silence from Plex…

Really disappointing

My point is, turn that off. It will use lots of CPU if you do not have a GPU, and even then, it doesn’t do well. When I’ve had that enabled it has caused me to have a poor experience. Without it enabled, unless I happen to be on a channel that does not come in strong in my area watching live tv works just fine.

These forums are all we get for support. Its community driven for the most part. If you don’t want to do what another community member is suggesting based on their own experience with the feature, then that’s on you.

Live TV & DVR works fine if you know what you’re doing. I have streams going all day long no problems here.
