I tried build 8587 briefly, but with the complete lack of subtitles, further testing is pointless. I do need the subtitles. The description says that “SRT subtitles don’t correctly render when more than one line on screen”. I couldn’t get any subtitles to render, no matter if they were one or two lines. However, during my few minutes of testing the 8587 build, I immediately noticed severe stuttering. (1080p SDR video at 23.976 fps.)
I have now switched to the 8585 build which seems to work fine with perfect subtitles and no stuttering so far.
My system is Apple TV 4K, 3rd generation with tvOS 17.5.1.
