I’d also confirm your devices are up to date on the tvOS/homepod os side of things… 17.5.1 is much more stable for me with Plex (and Infuse), closer to tvOS 16 performance. I had a heck of a headache with earlier tvOS builds and Plex / Infuse, especially with HEVC media.
I’m going to test that tonight as well, as my 2 paired HomePods dropping audio or being out of sync was my biggest issue with Plex for tvOS. You’re saying to have the new audio engine enabled with this latest 8.36 build and be on the latest tvOS/homepod OS 17.5.1 and issues should be gone?
There’s nothing to test, the new audio engine hasn’t been touched since it was introduced almost a year ago.
Yeah I just found that out.![]()
Still the Audio cutouts with HomePods and nothing changed with Spatial Audio.
Back to enjoy the last 5 hours of the Molten release life with no Spatial Audio but at least no audio dropouts with HomePods.
Then back to Infuse.
They’re definitely not gone for me.
@cassiusclyde mentions, absolutely nothing has changed.
Thanks @hsousa! I think I might have been accidentally booted from this test initiative last week. Can I be-readded? The public TF just updated me to 8.36 and I’m back in the stuttering world. I’m currently only seeing those builds (up to 8.36) Thanks!
I see you on the playback TestFlight group
can you try restarting TestFlight (and your Apple TV if that doesn’t work)?
Tried 8.37 and watching a Dolby Vision Dune 2 rip. Upon playing it worked fine, then I pressed pause and I noticed a “bonk” and my TV had reverted to SDR display mode and obviously had washed out colors. I observed the same thing on a standard HDR file as well.
Thanks! So this reliably happens on any DV or HDR file you play? Is it any time you pause?
I’m having the opposite and SDR is being displayed in HDR.
Just gave that a shot, but unfortunately I don’t see either 8.37 or 8.34(8096), only the public builds. I did receive the TestFlight email for 8.37, but the special builds aren’t showing up. Double checked my two Apple TVs and my iOS devices and it’s the same across them all.
That’s really weird. Maybe it’s a TF issue propagating the update across Apple’s servers. Please give it another try later and if that doesn’t work send me a DM, I can look into it tomorrow morning.
To keep posts light, I’m going to
feedback posts if they don’t require any more feedback, as a way to acknowledge they’ve been logged and will be looked into.
Thanks for keeping this thread on topic, you folks rock!
Upon further review, when pausing happens I believe it is reverting to the homescreen setting (my setup is SDR 59.97 Hz) so it’s not just the colorspace that changes it’s the refresh rate as well. Seems like something with the match framerate and match colorspace disengaging as if playback is stopped, even though it is only paused.
I too am seeing issues with DV/HDR media on 8.37 (8587). HDR media is playback as if it were Flate/LOG media and looks washed out. No issues with SDR media.
Downgrading to 8.37 (8585) does not have the HDR color issues.
With 8587, I’ve not been able to load any of the content in my library… it stays in State: Buffering.
With 8585, I’m able to load all content (so far) and it plays back successfully
(should point out that this device is on tvOS 18.0b1, so take whatever nonsense I spew with a healthy grain of salt)
I tried build 8587 briefly, but with the complete lack of subtitles, further testing is pointless. I do need the subtitles. The description says that “SRT subtitles don’t correctly render when more than one line on screen”. I couldn’t get any subtitles to render, no matter if they were one or two lines. However, during my few minutes of testing the 8587 build, I immediately noticed severe stuttering. (1080p SDR video at 23.976 fps.)
I have now switched to the 8585 build which seems to work fine with perfect subtitles and no stuttering so far.
My system is Apple TV 4K, 3rd generation with tvOS 17.5.1.
I’m noticing some micro stuttering with a high bitrate 4K (HEVC Main 10) file, but overall it’s fairly watchable. I can sometimes get SRT subtitles to work, but the rendering issue must be the overlap in between on the individual letters. I’ve attached an example screen grab highlighting the weirdness in the letters.
I also noticed an improvement when video playback start time once you click play. It’s pretty quick to start playing even with these high bitrate files.
I’m on the latest stable tvOS and I also haven’t been able to play a single file be it 4K HDR, DV or 1080p/720p SDR.
I get no message, each file simply tries to load and then takes it to the post play screen as if the item is watched.
Exact same behavior, the buffering state message is from the debug overlay
