Apple Player Update Beta Testing - Archive

I’m seeing the same issues with subtitles on iOS.

There are playback issues for recorded tv channels and while watching live tv. Rewind and ff barely works for recorded tv and does not work at all with live tv. My recordings are h264 with aac audio.

LIVE TV works as intended. HDHomeRun. 1080i and 720i - Local Terrestrial Channels AU

Only found issue: DoVI (profile 5) has a Green / Amethyst- Deep lilac tints but plays no stutter. 4K HEVC AC3 5.1 (Direct Play)

Can you share logs and details about your setup, please?

Can you confirm seeking/rewind/fastforward work with Live TV and DVR content? We’re seeing mixed results from users and are trying to establish a pattern.

Sent via PM.

Live TV recording << >> worked as intended, the question would be do testers have ATV set to Touch and Swipe and not just Touch?

Procedure: Press ok on remote, the progress line appears with a location ( Vertical line/ Pipe), swipe either << or >> to Fast rewind or Fast forward. So it is not LIVE << >> with video just accelerated or played backwards at speed.

Works as intended on Terrestrial TV recordings. It was a 1080i broadcast. Saved as a Transport stream file (ts).

Strangely PMS reports it as Progressive.

  1. No more stuttering. Seeing major tone mapping blow out on this version. SDR set with HDR files. The power of the sun is how to describe the blowout lol.

Stuttering is gone for me as well. One (positive) thing I am seeing — it looks like TrueHD tracks are not transcoding from the server anymore and playing back in MPV. Nice to see this!

*** Edit - Disregard post, I found the form and submitted. ***

Hi @hsousa and team, could I please request a Test Flight invite code?

It would be great to test the build which improves stuttering.

Thanks for the time and effort on the ATV builds!

Cheers,

Sam

Just thought I would give an update on the same issue we were both having. It seems in my case it was a networking thing. I noticed the server completely losing the green tick on remote access on occasions (plus one or two other suspected network issues not related to Plex).
I decided to upgrade my router and now all the experimental player builds work just fine.

I’m not suggesting you go out and buy a new router of course, but I just wanted to suggest that you check things on your network in any way you can.

Thanks for the tip! Were you able to isolate what the actual issue was with your router config?

In my case, I don’t have remote access enabled at all. If it is network related, then the experimental player behaves differently than the old player (I can load content fine with experimental builds with the old player and also the first two experimental builds with the VKMolten stuff) so it’d be helpful to understand what the breaking change is.

Yeah like you I could use the Molten build and store versions and first couple of experimental builds. So it’s weird how the issues was just with the last few builds.

Anyway I started getting messages I was connected via Plex relay infrequently and although I don’t tend to stream away from home often I do keep remote access enabled.

What exactly changed with the new router I have no idea. It may simply have been that when I set the new router up I disconnected my NAS andmy NUC that hosts PMS etc It may simply have been the case of a dodgy Ethernet cable that got swapped out in the process. But again that wouldn’t really explains why it was only the last three TestFlight builds that didn’t play anything.

Anyway though it’s solved for me I did send hsousa logs prior to that (and I know you did) so hopefully they get you sorted.

Regardless, glad you’re up and running! I hope I didn’t come across as dismissive in my initial reply– a network issue definitely wasn’t my first thought when it comes to swapping out players, but it’s worth looking into!

Not at all. I’m as baffled as you as to what’s caused the issue initially for me. Had it not been the other strange things happening on the network I would probably have been waiting alongside you for a fix.
I had actually planned on reinstalling the Apple TV after swapping out the router. I guess I don’t need to now.
As a side note I will still be using Infuse at night time (for Spatial Audio) with my HomePods. Other than that and needing some clarification on Dolby Vision I will now be using the Plex client mostly. Not perfect but it’s improving rapidly.

This may not apply to you but if the green checkmark disappeared shortly after you loaded the test page it may have been a red herring. These are the official instructions on how to use the remote access test, and I cite them frequently because it’s not intuitive at all. (IMHO an external port checking tool is better.)

Same. DV content on a DV tv, blacks are gray.

I’ve been using Plex on Nvidia Shield and Infuse on ATV for years. This latest Plex beta for ATV is a welcome surprise, and I really appreciate the development efforts!

Most everything seems to be working well, aside from a couple oddities. HDR10 and DoVi files seem to play with a LOT higher light output than on my other hardware players, including my standalone 4K UHD disc player. Whites are definitely being crushed. Also, SDR HEVC files are being converted to HDR, for 1080p or 2160p files. Non-HEVC SDR files play as expected.

The above issues are only with the Experimental player and do not occur with Infuse or any other streaming app content on ATV.

Yep although I haven’t had chance to test much with HDR/DVgenerally, I can confirm I’m seeing SDR files triggering HDR.

Interesting, here is an article on the subject of SDR and HDR

Hi there,
There’s another regression with the new player (version 8.38 (8676)) : playback starts too early, before the TV finishes its frequency sync/mode(SDR/HDR) change.

I don’t see a  on my previous post to acknowledge the issues, have you got it ?
Cheers,
