The latest version : 8.38 (8676), your last post was all about 8.38 (8665) I believe.

Speaking of which, there’s a new build available in TestFlight – 8.38 (8676) – with the same release notes as we’ve used in the previous builds.
This build’s main changes are focused around addressing the stuttering issues found in the previous one, including in older devices like the Apple TV HD.
We are aware of the other issues reported here (thank you all, once again) and they’re under investigation, but we wanted to make sure we addressed this issue first.
We’re also seeing some issues with DV fallback and content matching, so if you want to use this build and you find similar issues, you might want to temporarily turn off content matching and force it into HDR(10).
Hi folks, it seems every piece of feedback regarding stuttering seems to be it’s completely gone. Can anyone confirm if they’re still seeing content stutter with the latest build (8676)?
Additionally, we’re having a really hard time reproducing the issue where playback simply won’t start. @ckdxxx seems to still have it, but @Xhaka’s turned out to be external to Plex. Is anyone else having a similar issue? If so, any info you can share about your hardware/setup/media/logs/etc. would help.
For me, on the older Apple TV HD devices, H264 media stutter seems to be 99% of the way gone, however, HEVC media still struggles. Playback with “old player” of HEVC media seems to be fine as it’s forcing a transcode. Again, this may just be the limitations of the old hardware at this point, and it may make sense to profile out HEVC media to force transcode on these devices.
Hey @hsousa – I’m new to this thread but suffering from the same issue on my ATV 4K with 10-bit 4K HLG HEVC clips. Would love to test this build and provide feedback if you’re still accepting new testers. Thanks!
This Beta is mainly about fixing stuttering, hopefully once that is fixed other features and fixes will be introduced. So the answer to your question is NO.
I am now having this same issue too with the latest build (8676) on my ATV 4K 2nd Gen. Not a single video plays unless I use the old video player. I will share the logs if I can but I have never done so before so bear with me.
Sadly it appears this may not be the case after all.
Nothing has changed in my network, I haven’t done any updates in PMS or my Apple TV nor has anything outside of Plex changed or moved.
Yesterday everything was fine and today the exact same thing is happening. Meanwhile I again switched to the Molten release everything again plays fine.
EDIT:
An Apple TV restart and I’m back up and running for now.
Can I get a sample file that you can’t play content with? We understand that, when this happens, nothing plays. But we haven’t been able to reproduce it on our side, and the logs don’t show any smoking gun, so a sample might help.
How can I get into the beta? I submitted the form. I’m having issues with Apple TV and would like to try the beta version to see if it fixes it. Thanks.
I’m able to successfully play all content I tried from a remote Plex server. (Clarification here: this isn’t a change or something I “fixed,” I just simply never tried it since I rarely play remote content)
So the issue DOES seem to be more in the ballpark of local server/network connection (as @Xhaka suspected!)
@hsousa Does the new player, for any reason, happen to handle network requests differently than the old player? I do see it trying to use the plex.direct hostname instead of the custom URL I’ve had configured for the past few years.
Update 2:
more success! Reconfiguring my network to allow the plex.direct hostname to resolve results in successful playback with new player.
Very curious why the two players behave differently in this regard and if it’s intentional (I’d prefer to be able to revert my network changes)
This also appears to be a change between the first experimental player build and subsequent ones
Other than my change of router I was also tracking down why I had (even prior to the router change) issues with remote connections intermittently. It was behaving like I had a Double NAT situation and using Plex even locally would act as if it was using Plex relay.
Possibly more crucially is why after the change of router re linking PMS on my NUC with Tautulli (running in Docker on my NAS) wasn’t working. I definitely tweaked my network settings in Plex (without necessarily knowing what I was doing) coupled with the fact (and I had forgotten this part) that I have a DDNS custom domain name running and on the NUC/PMS (with a client updater) and was tweaking stuff with that also.
I’m fairly sure I never tried to play anything in Plex after the router change until after I tweaked a lot of the above stuff, again without really knowing what I was doing (as is often my way).
So in effect I messed with different things to get Tautulli working, the side effect of this was definitely that the seeming use of Plex relay vanished (on all clients) and then finally I tried Plex on the Apple TV with the enhanced player. From that point everything just worked.
So it was almost certainly not the router change that directly fixed anything but more likely the fact that I finally got around to sorting out the pre existing Plex Relay behaviour and blindly messing with network interface settings to make Tautulli connect and tweaking of my DDNS
