It has been 9 months since most Android devices got the ability to always skip intros of TV shows. iOS and tvOS said they were coming but with no ETA. I REFUSE to believe that this is a difficult issue. It really isn’t. The same code that SHOWS the Skip Intro button could EASILY be rewritten to simply have it skip. This is an issue of Plex for some reason not even working on it. When will this happen???
All the new player experience stuff is almost done with dev work and should be getting to QA soon.
So will we get it this year, at least in Beta?
Oh… the optimist. Lol ![]()
I just seriously don’t understand the holdup. There’s code in place that detects the intro, and shows a button. All that’s needed is make a settings toggle that when turned on, instead of showing the Skip Intro button, it instead runs the code that is also already in existence to actually skip it. Should take about 10 minutes since all the server-side stuff is in place.
The player experience pack (which includes more than just auto-skip intro) took a bit of time and effort to bring to other platforms. There is a lot more than 10 minutes of effort involved in this. Plex were also without a dedicated Apple Playback engineer for quite some time too.
I feel your pain. The auto skip feature is probably the biggest quality of life updates. That alone should have been a partial update if all the other features haven’t been completed. Nevertheless, looking forward to it!
Nope. A player engine that actually works is far more important and Plex are actually developing it at last.
It has been almost a year since this feature came to Android and other players. Even my old 2016 Samsung TV has it.
Apple TV 8.39 added this option. There is no mention of this in the release announcement.
