And fits with home media ripping forums and communities too. We’re all aging out basically. Even the fansub community for anime is super reduced and niche (and mostly not actually “fansubbing”). In most cases it’s easier to pay a streaming service (or share one) or a sketchy IPTV than to manage media files. Particularly for mobile only folks. So many of my younger family don’t have a computer at all.
Totally fits really. I even notice when I look up movie titles, along with the Netflix or Amazon streaming results I now get Plex streaming options occasionally for some titles. Those same younger folks I know are more than happy to jump on a free streaming platform, even with ads, because most of the time they are second screening anyways or it’s just playing in the background.
I am disappointed as well and think the NFO support development- after years of avoiding it - is also part of relegating PMS to a more “maintenance mode” state by putting more control in the admin responsibility instead of theirs. Plex’s big selling point was “we’ll take care of that so you don’t have to” and now that’s being reversed in many areas.
To be honest I’m mostly fine with that because I don’t know what else I’m missing in my media center these days. It does everything I want it to do and still edges out Jellyfin\Emby in many feature sets I find useful (I keep trying them out but come back to Plex).
Some of the Client side stuff has been a little lackluster and still needs work but I think since they will continue to work on client side for their VOD that’ll still evolve further (though I’d really like them to get the clock back on all screens on Roku (yes I’m still beating that drum) and get the new ClearLogo use sorted a bit better).
If they can get a few niggling left overs fixed up on the server side I think I’d be fine if they went to a “maintenance mode”.
