The forum and the Plex’ subreddit have both an abnormal amount of threads complaining about the Roku update.
I tried to do some tests to quantify the heat problem using Plex on Apple TV
Is the new plex still running like dog ■■■■ on TvOS? Irratic spinning wheel, on easy to use libraries and so on.. the should keep using Apple’s native player, that runs smooth . I am still on 8.* version before this terrible Update.
It plays very well except for True HD audio, version 2025.25 is now a stable release with increasing promise.
By mistake I just updated my iOS app.. basically like zero improvement. Looking info on a movie takes “forever” . With old version it was pretty much instant.
Let me see if I can upload a video. It’s doest the same thing on tvOS. I just tested on a old appletv I keep as a test device.
With downloads do you have your settings for WiFi only?
I have no issue with my 2 iPad Pro M4 or 2 Android Phones.

This doesn’t have to do anything with downloading. It’s just pulling up simple summary about the content and some art work..
sure after loading up the first time, second time
Pulls Info instant.
On 8.4.* it was always instant, first time loading info, second etc.
It doesn’t matter if it’s on WiFi or wired (1gbit) , it’s a flaw in plex new code.
Please expand on Info? Why are you intent on saying it Plex’s new code.
Hardware model?
It’s obvious.. hardware didn’t change .with old version app, everything smooth. New version app everything but smooth. Something in the code is changed how metadata is loaded/cached or something.
Server hasn’t changed.
I’m sorry, I’m not seeing it on 2025.25 on any of my devices. As for info, are you talking about a Titles metadata, Summary, cast and crew, Ratings, Extras, related movies?
No lag at all.
Avatar/ settings/ advanced/ Reset cache
Your server is likely creating all new thumbnails to fit the new ui. Depending on your server this may take some time so the first request we’ll be slower. The old app used the same resources as some other apps so the thumbnails may have already existed.
If you constantly get slow loading, I would report that, but on first load, that is expected.
So this I have to open all files one by one? To have it loaded faster the second time ?. Thing is my main device will not be updated to new plex
App before its working 100% . How does my server new how to handle this part? Since the app itself is not doing any real caching like a infuse does for example.
Care to share a short video? Like I did of some random movie you haven’t opened before.?
Can not reproduce your issue, I have just opened a show added 2 hrs ago with my iPad and it is instant, no spinners
The app does cache the images. But they are first created on the server. If you look in your pms folder, there is a cache folder. That’s where these images are created and stored for the clients to retrieve. If you delete these files, they will get created again when the client requests it so you can check the first time speed of the old app if you want.
I use Chuckpa Utility and pruning works effectively, I do not see any slow loading of Metadata
I don’t know what that app does but if it’s meant to prune unused assets, then it wouldn’t affect loading times since they are unused. If it prunes the entire cache folder, and other apps are good but the new one is still slow, there may be a bug in the way the new app requests the images.
Both of you thank you for the insights. I will play around with it a little. For know i will give that iOS app Downgrade guide a go so I have a good working version on my iPhone, until I find a good solution how to fix the loading.
