Apple Remote "Menu" button won't open Plex

Keen for this too :slight_smile: Love being able to open/shut plex with my Harmony.

Any update on this @tobiashieta ?

I used this quite a bit (to launch PHT). Super disappointing that this doesn’t work in PMP. My Mac Mini is the dedicated PMP on the television and runs without a keyboard or mouse attached. Once PMP is exited (happens more often than I’d like), there’s no recourse but to connect a keyboard & mouse, remotely connect from another computer (reboot the system or launch the application from a remote desktop session). Pretty inconvenient. I really hope this can be fixed soon, sounds like it’s way overdue at this point.

It’s part of 1.1

Really need this functionality, please see my earlier response.

@tobiashieta any update here?

Installed Plex Media Player and start with long press Menu now doesn’t work for neither Plex Home Theater nor Plex Media Player… what do you suggest to stop me going backwards?

@siknus Start Plex Home Theater via menu once. Shut down PHT and try to start with Apple Remote again. Does that work?

It works, thank you! At least I can use Plex Home Theater again. Now I’ll have to wait until the option to start PMP via Apple Remote is implemented… :wink:

Has anybody got a work around for this if it’s not in PMP?

What a joke PMP is.

I just switched from OpenPHT to Plex Media Player (UNO) …

And I can’t figure out how to get PMP to launch via my remotes (using an Apple Remote or a Harmony remote paired to a MacMini via Bluetooth or emulating an Apple Remote)…

Clicking ā€œmenuā€ worked on the old Plex Home Theater, and on OpenPHT, and on Kodi… But not PMP.

Is it still just an ā€œupcoming featureā€ on PMP after all these years, or is there a different command I should be mapping to?

Digging through the forums I see various workaround solutions involving third-party software, but I’d rather not run another program just to get a single key to work haha.

Hard to believe this hasn’t been implemented yet, so I’m hoping I’m just overlooking a more current, simple solution.

(Update: I don’t think this will help with a basic Apple Remote, but this Apple Automator guide is a pretty fast/simple solution for assigning a keyboard shortcut to launch any app; and then with a remote like Harmony you can assign that keyboard shortcut to a button on the remote. I tried it, it works. But, yeah, it still seems like this is pretty basic remote-control functionality Plex should support ā€œout of the box,ā€ rather than sending users off on a hunt for custom solutions. But at least there are some workarounds of sorts, for some remotes anyway: https://m.wikihow.com/Set-a-Keyboard-Shortcut-to-Open-Mac-Apps)
