I have a ATV3 on the original shipped firmware. What is my best option forward to run Plex? Can I plex connect through it as I thought I read 5.0 is no longer a supported version? Or am I better to use my ipad to airplay/mirror the content to my ATV3? I have a lot of 720p/1080p content and my worry is that airplay will have bandwidth limitation.
Plexconnect will not work well (at all?) with firmware prior to 5.2. Is there a reason you don’t want to upgrade your ATV? You could manually upgrade to 5.2 or 5.3 if jailbreaks, “addsite.mc” possibilities, etc, are a concern. If these manipulations aren’t of interest you can just upgrade to 6 using the internal ATV upgrade process.
How do I manually upgrade? I thought you had to go to the latest version if Apple stopped signing he image/firmware?
