almost a year later, no fix lol…
Identical problem here.
Running latest iOS and latest version of the app on Apple TV 4K streaming from Plex server running on MacMini.
Enhanced player on = smooth video but audio delay
Enhanced player off = audio in sync but video is then constantly ‘buffering’ and stalling
Only when using HDR content.
Same results for live TV via Plex using Home Run HD.
Please help, this has gone on for ages now!
Andy
Works fine when using iPad/iphone on either home network or 4G, only get these problems with ATV making me think this is definitely an issue with the ATV app.
Hi everyone,
I’m reporting the same issue and hoping someone doesn’t mind giving me a quick summary of the workaround/fix (there’s 80+ messages over a year that I’ve tried browsing and not sure anymore). Today is Dec 10, 2020.
My Plex Server is the latest update as of today running on an UnRaid. I had similar issues using the standard Mac server on a MacMini back in September before it crashed.
I have an AppleTV 4K, connected via HDMI to an Onkyo receiver, which is then connected via HDMI to an LG OLED. I find that there are audio sync issues only on the Plex App. Doesn’t seem to be an issue on Netflix (tested multiple shows that have diff dynamic ranges/frame rates). Prime seems unreliable. I have Match Dynamic Range & Frame Rate on right now. I have tried the Apple TV sync multiple times. TV audio sync is off. Receiver audio sync is also off.
What do I need to do to address? It’s unbearable. No issues when streaming on my iPhone directly… UGH! I will try turning match frame rate off and trying over apps.
This issue randomly started for me in the latest Apple TV 4K TvOS 14.2 was fine before that.
My audio goes out of sync via HomePod but every other app is fine, as others have said turning off the enhanced player seems to be the workaround, but would prefer to use the enhanced player.
Turning off match frame rate is not a ‘solution’ for me because it makes fast moving scenes judder.
Happy to send log files video samples if necessary if someone from Plex wants to reply, otherwise not wasting my time if this thread is generally ignored now.
Tried turning off the enhanced player today and found that it didn’t fix the problem. On TVOS 14.3 and have calibrated audio for all the different screen modes.
If you really want to know how bad it is, turn on your TV speakers at the same time as your HomePods and enjoy the echo. Seems like Plex doesn’t really care about the AppleTV client anymore.
Happening for me as well. Please do NOT take the old player out of the tvOS client…without it, Plex would be useless to me.
I have this issue as well. Whenever it’s out of sync, video is always lagging behind.
Setup is Apple TV 4K to Marantz SR5014 to Sony AF8. Everything direct played, every app is up to date. Tried playing around with Match Content Frame Rate setting on Apple TV and motion settings on the TV (Motionflow and Cinema Mode). Audio is totally out of sync when frame rate matching is enabled, less so when it’s locked at 60 Hz, but it’s still there. Confirmed by comparing to a NVIDIA Shield (which I had to buy due to this very issue) on the same setup.
The weird thing is that sometimes it looks like the audio loses sync only on certain scenes. That could be just me losing my mind, trying to troubleshoot this issue the whole evening. The only thing I can say for sure is that there’s definitely a problem as NVIDIA Shield playing the same clips has everything in perfect sync no matter the settings. Same goes for Infuse on Apple TV, so I’d say the fault is on the Plex app.
I thought i was going crazy with this issue before i found this thread. Have gone so far as to replacing cables and even considering re-syncing audio on my 4k hdr content.
How is this problem not yet fixed?
I only started seeing the issue recently on my AppleTV. It happened for only a couple of Plex 4K HDR videos. I was still on TVOS 14.0.1 but now upgrading to 14.3.
Infuse Pro also has this issue. Seems like Apple’s own video player is the only one that can actually keep audio in sync with the video.
Has anyone figured out why yet? This is do annoying.
No, Infuse doesn’t have this problem. If you’re experiencing sync problems with Infuse, then likely you have an issue with your setup or with the specific content you’re watching.
It does for some, yeah. No issue with the setup or content.
It gets better if you put the Apple TV to output Dolby digital rather than the original audio, but it’s still not perfect being ever so slightly off.
I got MrMC and haven’t had any sync issues when playing 4k hdr. I don’t like the interface but it’s at least something for now. Hdr doesn’t work with MrMC lite so I got the paid version.
I’ve just resorted to manually adjusting the A/V sync on my avr every time I wanna watch something. I used the old player as a workaround for a long time but even then the sync is off sometimes and obviously it can hardly direct play anything.
If plex cannot figure out the nuisances of different hardware having obvious issues, they need to allow us to customize audio sync on a per-use, temporary basis.
That would keep us from having to switch apps, and would be a fairly fast solution for movie nights, since the issue is p much narrowed to 4k and hdr high bandwidth content.
I’m using ATV, and my home server is Windows.
I also had to resort to use mrMC instead as 4K hdr is totally broken with Plex for me.
Common @elan enough with stupid plex amp and figure this out!!! Do something about your core product!
You have other products besides plex amp that need attention.
Do something or have one of your underlings to actually work on something. This is getting ridiculous.
Cordially,
Me.
This is especially painful considering the Apple TV is a “premium” device. You’d expect that by paying more for the hardware you’d get a better software experience. This is true for most apps on the platform, but not Plex.
Come on, team! The wife will never move to another platform, and I can’t deal with out of sync audio!
Their core product is making money and they’ve got yours and mine so it seems things are still “in development” lol
