Took me a while to figure out what causes this, but yup… turn on Settings > Video and Audio > Match Content > Match Frame Rate > ON and the audio is unsynced for 24fps content… turn it OFF and the audio again sync’d. Sometimes the audio takes about 30sec-1min to become unsync’d
It’s desirable to have this setting set to ON because then the TV get notified to that the content is 24fps and does 3:2pull down for 24fps content…
Your specific observation is discussed over the course of the thread. The short version is that Plex is aware of the issues regarding audio and video sync and is working on a solution.
Yup… the older player seems to work fine in my experience as well.
I’ve been messing around with this for a while too… BUT I just found that if I disable Match Frame Rate The enhanced player audio will also be synced… so I’m thinking the root cause must be this setting on Apple TV… that it’s not compatible with the Enhanced player.
While using enhanced player I literally turn match frame rate on… gets unsynced… off and it’s sync’d…
hmm… Jan. 2020… it’s now April 2023… more than THREE YEARS?? Ugh…! 
Get the feeling this has to be the LOWEST priority… is not getting fixed
