Problem: Multi-channel audio movies no longer play audio correctly through my Apple TV 4K. According to my soundbar (which is connected downstream of the ATV) says it’s receiving 2-channel PCM as input but no sound is audible.
My setup used to work fine for multi-channel as recent as a few weeks ago, but something changed and I’m not sure what. It’s driving me crazy!
My setup:
- Latest PMS running on Unraid (v1.23.5.4801)
- Apple TV 4K player running latest Plex App
- ATV connected to a Sennheisser Ambeo soundbar via HDMI
- Soundbar definitely supports multi-channel PCM audio in case you suspects that’s the issue. (specs here). Remember this used to work probably 3 weeks ago.
Other info:
- Every movie with multi-channel audio is affected. No audible sound, sennheisser is reporting 2 channel PCM as input
- Stereo content will play and is audible
- Only Plex on Apple TV is affected. Multi channel audio from other apps (e.g. Netflix, Amazon Video) plays fine
- ATV4k is running tvOS 15.0 beta, but I was running this before and it still worked. However, not sure if there was some update that installed that broke this, but if it did, it’s weird it’s just affecting Plex
- When I turn on playback detail display overlay in the Plex ATV app, for the audio section is says “null → null” for the audio channels which is weird:
Any ideas? I’ve attached non-verbose logs which has be playing a video with 5.1 AC3 and repros the issue.
