Apple TV and iOS player not working

The latest updates to the Plex app on Apple TV and iOS broke Live TV video playback for me. After searching and finding various answers, I was able to delete and reinstall the app, and switch to using the mpv player to get it to work. I prefer to use the “old” (Apple native) video player and would like to continue using it. Disabling it in favor of the new video player is not a good solution for me. I’m fine with transcoding the video to mp4.

The mpv player has had audio sync issues for as long as I’ve used Plex. I’ve seen many so posts that no Plex developer in history has ever been able to recreate an issue hundreds of users experience. It is easy to recreate, go setup wireless audio sync in Apple TV Settings app and there are sync issues between the TV and its built-in speakers, turn it off and they go away. Works every single time. I use this feature to play audio on both my TV and a HomePod mini in the kitchen and possibly other airplay speakers. It works great for every other streaming app I use, and even Plex with the “old” video player. Without Wireless Audio Sync, the airplay speakers and TV speakers are not synced up. It is there for a reason.

I’ve also seen posts about changing Match Framerate and Match Dynamic range settings to get the mpv player to work and not have sync issues. Those are global settings in tvOS that apply to every app and have a purpose, they don’t need to be held hostage by Plex’s home rolled video player.

I hope my explanation helps narrow things down. Is there any ETA to at least getting the “old” video player back up and working like it was before the latest update?
