Apple TV app new UI bugs

Seems like this started yesterday.

On every “season” page, when any video is highlighted, the tag list on the bottom right twitches once a second or so. Seems like some tags disappear and reappear repeatedly.

When the first episode of a season is highlighted, it stays there for a moment and then moves the selection to the second episode.

This has been independently reproduced on /r/plex.

Yup!

I was just about to report this exact thing.

Sometimes it scrambles the order of the “E(x)” number badges in the top-right corner of episodes.

It makes server requests every time the Cast and bottom-right tag list twitch, too.

I uninstalled & reinstalled. I even rolled back to 7.26 to compare - no change.

Are you using the tvOS 15.4 beta?

I’m seeing these issues and am on the 15.4 beta so that could be related.

Yup. I’m seeing this too. Pretty sure it’s related to iOS 15.4.

@ratbastid - maybe update the thread’s title to include “tvOS 15.4 beta” to help other people searching for this?

Same for me. Also on tvOS 15.4 beta.

Same issue, also on 15.4 beta

Same issue here. 3 Apple TV’s all in 15.4 beta

This particular issue seems better in the latest tvOS beta.

The list of actors and the bottom tag are still twitching.

+1 here. I’m currently on 15.4, but this was an issue before then too.

It’s bad enough that I have to time my remote clicks in order to play the first episode in the list, else it will always jump to the second episode showing.

It’s mostly fixed with the newest 15.4 Beta (v3, I think)

Just saw the new build of 15.4, and installed it. Confirming here that the episode section has stopped shifting around. Thanks!

Still having this problem with Apple TV 4k on today’s 15.4 beta, using new Siri remote (2nd gen).

New (to me) issue: long press on an episode on the season page brings up info for different episodes from the episode selected.

I think the “flickering tags” issue is also affecting the Cast/Actors list when viewing Movies.

When viewing a Movie’s info, scrolling is “paused” once a second. And one Cast member’s name is hi-lighted slight brigher … but the affected item changes once per second.

Still not fixed.

My surmise is that there’s something going on with auto audio/subtitle selection for episodes only with subtitles, either embedded or internal.

I don’t see this happening for episodes without subs.

(Tried this with both remotes, with Accessibility Zoom on/off and with files that have embedded and outboard sub. Same results.)

I’m worried that this is still happening with the tvOS 15.4 Release Candidate.

The UI glitching isn’t as bad for shows without subs. Nice observation.

I think it’s not subs specifically, but a repeated query for all types of media extras and augments and cast. Even for shows without subs, there’s a request to the server every second:

Mar 08, 2022 18:30:22.226 [0x808183400] DEBUG - Completed: [10.0.1.8:52769] 200 GET /library/metadata/175450?asyncAugmentMetadata=0&checkFiles=0&includeChapters=1&includeConcerts=1&includeExternalMedia=1&includeExternalMetadata=1&includeExtras=1&includeGeolocation=0&includeMarkers=1&includeMeta=1&includeOnDeck=1&includePopularLeaves=1&includePreferences=0&includeRelated=0&includeRelatedCount=15&includeReviews=1 (4 live) TLS GZIP 98ms 2152 bytes (pipelined: 122)

I just updated to tvOS 15.4, which released today, and I now have the same UI glitch described in this thread. It’s a bit annoying.

I’m guessing a fix is on its way?

Edit:
Now fixed with Plex for Apple TV 8.0

I think it’s fixed with the latest Beta (8.0 2172).

I agree. Latest Plex Testflight beta resolves it. Yay!

UI looks good, no flickering.
It feels much faster without the reload-induced interruptions.
No more repeated requests to the server, either.

It feels so much faster again.
