Oui, bien sur! Je parle un peu en petit Francais
We just add an “is” in the middle, otherwise, No news is good news everywhere but at Plex where we continue to wait.
Sorry Dave, I just couldn’t resist.
Lots of new releases with the latest newsletter. Nothing for us though. Actually, other than the tIDAL announcement some time ago, there has been very little mentioned about audio only in any way shape or form. Obviously Plex is putting a big focus on video these days.
Not losing hope, just extending this thread’s life into 2021 with a reply.
I think 2021 is going to be the year! Definitely the 2020s.
Some time in the next 10 years. Yep, I’m with you on that.
Adding a comment just to say: please, plex. Please
I don’t think you can put memes in this forum, otherwise I’d be hunting down a James Brown meme right now.
The worst thing is that it plays only the 2 front channels separately, so it doesn’t even downmix the 5.1 track to stereo. So yeah, I’m waiting for the (proper) fix as well.
Yep. It makes it totally useless.
Not to change the topic from how unresponsive Plex has been but the good lord created dedicated two channel mixes for your stereo listening pleasure. Sometimes it can be interesting to hear the results of a 5.1 fold down but that’s a pretty random mix of front and back channel information that generally isn’t what the artist and their recording team intended for us to listen to. Anyway looking forward to hearing 5.1 in 5.1 again soon!
This statement is still true:
Well, unless the artist is Steven Wilson. Then it’s pretty close to heaven on earth.
20 days without a new post, wouldn’t that be a sign of weariness? This is the case for me: for 18 months now, I’ve been consulting this thread and the announcements of new versions almost every day and I end up not believing it anymore. What I do believe, however, is that some people at Plex think, like some music lovers I know, that 5.0 or 5.1 multichannel is not essential for listening to music and that two channels are enough (after all, we only have TWO ears, right?). So why fix this bug?

I’ve been meaning to post something here, but after 18 months of posts, it is hard to come up with something new. I understand that from a corporate point of view, the effort it is going to take to fix this and the lack of priority to fix it make this an almost lost cause, but… I still gotta hope for a fix.
I was going to buy an Apple TV today as a replacement for my XBOX which I use for streaming multichannel flac through PLEX currently. Glad I did my research and read this thread but I’m really disappointed in PLEX considering how long this thread has been running with no resolution.
The lack of movement on gapless playback support is also poor. I mean PLEX could really make themselves stand out from the crowd by recognising and supporting the multichannel audio community by focusing on and improving that area of the service.
I’m surprised that multi channel audio worked on the xbox. I didn’t think there was a platform that was working right now. That is part of the reason for the delay. My understanding is that they are going to build a multi platform audio system (or at least the core of the system will be multi platform). It’s a large project with a low priority.
Never had any issues with the PLEX app on XBOX and multichannel audio is still working fine on there (all my files are flac). I was only going to switch platform so one of my kids could have the XBOX as I don’t use it for gaming much anymore.
Well, it looks like your kids may be out of luck. I don’t know of a platform that is working right now. If there was one and it supported the apps I use, I would consider moving.
