REPOSTING no fix, unable to use Plex on my tv since Aug 2025!
I’m at a complete loss and have been banging my head on the wall around this issue for over a week.
I went away for work a couple of weeks ago when I returned I realized I could no longer connect to my plex library on my Apple TV app. So every time I try to connect I see “SynologyDS423 is Currently Unavailable” and it just keeps saying “Retry Connection”.
I THINK the issue is that a few months ago plex became unavailable while I was away on business for my family at home due to it becoming outdated. So when I got home I thought I successfully setup Watchtower to update plex via container manager automatically in the future, I think something maybe got messed up here? Or with my WiFi network? Honestly now I’m lost. I didn’t intentionally make any changes
I can access Plex from my iPhone whether on my local network (airplane mode, connected via WiFi) or remote (WiFi off, cell phone service).
It’s weird because my parents in another state also can’t access plex anymore via their Apple TV. They aren’t tech savvy so I can’t do much troubleshooting. But all the known issues with connecting right now are with Apple TV plex app and it’s the only “tv” app (we don’t have Rokus or other devices) that connect to my Plex library and I haven’t had issues in the last 2+ years I’ve been running Plex via my Synology NAS.
I also don’t have an issue watching from my MacBook browser with the IP address and I also have no issue playing my plex library via Infuse on the same Apple TV where I have my main issue with the connection.
I’ve tried working through it via searching topics here and then lots of ChatGPT prompts and uploading logs to no end.
Does anyone have any suggestions at all? I’ve looked through the logs and nothing jumps out to me, the connection seems to work but I can’t get past this unavailable / retry situation.
@BigWheel They show up pinned on the left side, both movies and TV Shows always always says Synology is currently unavailable and Retry Connection (which does nothing)
The weirder part is the Home part shows the movies and tv shows, and if I click one of them I can watch them. So clearly it is connected and there is access. I can’t figure out why the TV Show and Movie section always says disconnected and I can’t browse the full library (just Home > Recently Added sections work)
OK thanks i wanted to confirm. I see the errors creating the hubs rows of content that should be in the library recommended page. But cannot tell why.
If if you go to library settings under manage for your server can you Reset Customizations for your libraries.. and also Optimize database under Troubleshooting. Just want to rule them out.
I have what I’d say is exactly the same issue, is there any resolution on this, I’ve been unable to connect with my Apple TV for months, every other device works fine… computer, phone, etc., etc.
Please Help, I’ve started to look elsewhere for other options because I’ve tried everything that’s been talked about here and nothing has been helpful.
No I still haven’t got a fix or heard anything else from plex support, I’ve started looking at jellyfin because im so frustrated at being stuck like this
When reproducing the issue from an Apple TV, Plex logs show successful requests only.
For example:
GET /hubs/sections/3
GET /hubs/sections/2
Both return HTTP 200 with valid payloads.
I do not see any HTTP 401/404/500 errors or database errors.
I also do not see the Apple TV requesting /library/sections/.../all after displaying the error.
Additional observation
The exact same Apple TV works perfectly when connected to a friend’s Plex server.
Only my Plex server exhibits this behavior.
Given that this reproduces across multiple Apple TVs on multiple networks, I’m no longer convinced this is a client installation or local network issue. It appears to be something specific to how my Plex Media Server is interacting with Apple TV clients.
If there are any additional debug logging options or specific endpoints you’d like me to capture, I’m happy to provide them.
@jmorx3 looks like your server is not on the latest version. can you update and grab both the apple tv logs and the server logs coving when trying to open those libraries.
