- Brief description of the issue or bug
- Apple TV occasionally says my iMac server is unavailable. When troubleshooting, I am able to stream from the iMac server on my laptop from app.plex.tv so I know the server connection is okay.
- Steps to reproduce
- Have Plex Media Server running on iMac. Turn on Apple TV and load Plex. Scroll to content on my local network Plex Media Server. It sometimes says my iMac server is currently unavailable instead of loading content.
Plex used to work reliably, then intermittently but fixable by reconnecting server wifi or restarting Plex server, but now sometimes I cannot resolve at all. For a couple weeks I could resolve the issue by disconnecting my iMac wifi and reconnecting, then restart the Plex Media Server. Recently there are times I cannot get my Apple TV to load anything from my server, while my laptop connects via app.plex.tv instantly. I have also confirmed both my server iMac and Apple TV are on the same subnet 255.255.255.0. Yesterday I was successfully playing a video from the media server, and in the middle, it started transcoding via remote access. I disabled Relay and Remote Access, and my laptop said app.plex.tv is unable to connect to the server securely, even though I have the settings for network to secure preferences “preferred.” Today it works fine again changing nothing.
Other potentially relevant info: server is on 2020 iMac running Sequoia 15.5. I use Private Internet Access VPN but allow local traffic to bypass, and I have not noticed any correlation of Plex working better if VPN is off or on. I use a Netgear Nighthawk mesh Wifi router.
