[Apple TV] Bug with OS 16 - All Clients are named "Apple TV"

This started happening w/ Apple TV OS 16, Plex needs a fix for it.

All my Apple TVs are named “Room + Apple TV” – like “Den Apple TV”, “Office Apple TV”, etc…
this name is placed in Apple TV OS > Settings > HomeKit

Plex Clients have always respected that name and the Plex Client shows as such “Den Apple TV” etc.

Starting with OS 16, now Plex ignores the room name and always reports “Apple TV” for all the clients.

E.g. on my dashboard I will see “Plex for Apple TV — Apple TV” for all the clients instead of seeing the actual name of the Apple TV.

This causes a problem since I script w/ the Plex API and I’m relying on a way to distinguish the client names, but I no longer can.

How can you fix?

Yes, this is a change Apple made with iOS 16. We are trying to work on a solution.

Maybe you can do the same solution as the other software… have the Plex Client give us a new option in setting for “Client” and we can set our own names.

Great idea. I have several apps that have implemented this and it works great. I believe this used to be an option is some PLEX apps as well but disappeared at some point.
